Swine Flu epidemic in Mexico (and possibly US)

People also do this because of high pollen, which is a problem for some people with severe allergies.

It'll be more like 100 in the US by this time tomorrow.

My grandmother has congestive heart failure and she wears a mask all the time. Some people have to.

Which was the only thing I thought when I saw her. I felt bad that she had to walk around with a mask. She was young. It wasn't until I saw that blurb on the news that it occurred to me that maybe the swine flu is why. And the person earlier that said they couldn't wait to see people on the metro with masks.

Human, swine and bird flu strains from four continents suddenly recombine to create a new strain during non-flu season? What are the odds? Perhaps this was engineered and accidentally escaped a lab or was released on purpose by some organization or group. Think about it... No swine in Mexico have tested positive for this flu...

Also keep in mind that there are ONLY TWO LABS in the the western hemisphere that can currently confirm cases of swine flu - one in US and the other in Canada... so I am sure that there are more cases out there, just the labs have not caught up with confirming them.

I am interested in learning, i look at the hysterical drudge report multiple times a day. I've learned that 41 people in the US are sick out of 300,000,000 and that none have died and only one required hospitalization. I've also learned that all of the panic is over hypothetical scenarios. I survived SARS, Y2K, and the west nile. I'm much more afraid to get on the beltway.

You know, it's a good thing that all of those scares turned out to be nothing, but wouldn't you be angry to find out that your government had done nothing to prepare for the worst case scenario? It's always better to prepare for an emergency or natural disaster rather than blow it off completely. I agree that there's no reason to panic, but there's no reason to ignore it, either. Keep up to date on developments and hope for the best.

young adult from northern Indiana has the state's first case of swine flu, which was confirmed in testing by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The state health commissioner says the person is "doing well."

I'm mystified that there haven't been any suspected cases in DC yet. Didn't anyone here travel to Mexico for business? Spring break?

Or with Obama.

Would you be paranoid if a work colleague just returned from Mexico? (As in spent the past week there, returned yesterday and is back at work today). I know the chances are slim, but...

The Goverment has my best interest at heart- look how well Katrina was handled. Its pretty much every man for himself if you ask me. I have been watching, waiting and preparing. I'm surprised there are no cases in the DC area.

I'm sure there are cases in DC. Think of all the people who have traveled to Mexico in just the past week. Hopefully the cases are all very mild.
