Anyone been to San Francisco lately? The "traveler" population is out of control.

Has nobody bothered to point out that this is absolutely the result of failed liberal policies?

In Texas, that bastion of liberalism?

Well Houston's mayor is a lesbian, so there's that.

They wouldn't be there except for the dumbass tourists giving them money. The people who actually live there don't give money to beggers.

Yes, that's the *only* reason there are homeless in San Francisco.

There wouldn't be any beggars if they didn't earn money from begging. End of story!

First off, the police don't harass these people at all, only if they are obviously out of line or committing a crime. Our politicians would never allow it plus they have no money so it's not worth citing them with a ticket. The fact is, every city in the Bay Area spends millions of dollars on these people, there is no reason to give them any more. Every possible service is provided and they know it. Like I said earlier, 99% of these people are living this way because of choice. They did not all of a sudden lose there job and get a home taken away.

Drugs, alcohol and mental illness is behind all of this. Most of suffer from mental illness simply because of years of substance use. And what does our great state do? they classify them as disabled and give the a monthly check for over $1,000. each month. Most of which is spent on drugs, alcohol and cigarettes. Giving them money only supplies them with more.

Each and everyone of these people know exactly where to get free food and shelter each day. They know the system very well and use it to there benefit. It's so bad now that hundreds of these homeless are now living in the suburbs outside SF, many causing wildland fires from camping in the open space and accidentally burning down abandoned buildings they take over as shelter.

What program do they get the $1000 check from? Do they have to go pick it up? Are people turned away from shelters and free meals? I'm from another city with a large homeless/transient population and there is nowhere near enough money/services for them

Ah, liberal "compassion." You gotta love it. Too bad that the once great, beautiful city of San Francisco is being ruined by these sick-os.

Read Tweak and Beautiful Boy. This is what they are talking about.

I don't think wanting to understand the homeless situation is "liberal compassion." If you don't care to discuss different parts of the issue, why are you reading this thread? Labeling them "sick-os" (sic) is lazy and uninformed.

Intro?

What do you see in your future? (Long pause) Ummm...(awkward grin)..."A hot dog, definitely a hot dog."

Ugh, totally entitled: "If you're shopping here, you should be able to afford to throw a quarter our way. Hell, even $20 won't hurt your wallet."

Sad to hear about this. San Fran was my favorite American city. I haven't been in ten years but assumed I would return for a visit. Maybe not. I don't have. My interest in dealing with this on vacation in the US.

They're all over the Strip area in Vegas. Usually have a pet dog with them. Often have pretty creative signs asking for money. I never give them any but I imagine a tourist spot like that is ripe.

Wow genius you just solved the homeless problem. Stop giving them money and *poof* all gone.

Remember that kid Kai who first became famous in the news for attacking a guy who was beating up someone? Apparently he saved the victim. Then about a year later he allegedly killed a guy.

When he was still a hero the news station interviewed him and he talked about his bad.childhood. from that interview I could tell he was wack, but wasn't sure if it was from his experiences or an actual mental illness.

Anyway, this thread and those links PPs posted made me think about that. He was definitely a crusty.

I know a gay couple who have lived there for 5 years; they love it.
