Anyone been to San Francisco lately? The "traveler" population is out of control.

BTW, I never ever give money. When they ask, I say "No, sorry" without stopping. If I'm carrying leftovers from a restaurant I will offer them. I've been turned down once in ten years.

You were giving too much. Give a dollar or two. Not a $20.

Finally! A smart person on this thread who appears to have no patience for the PC wimps here.

Go to bed, honey. You're too dim to even understand a simple sentence.

Why be ugly and insulting? Either answer the question or say nothing. Its not that hard.

I live here in the Bay Area, yes these are ALL homeless that have arrived here from outside the area for the most part. You should not have given any money, let alone $20.00. Totally unheard of. These thousands of beggars have ruined SF, 99% of them have chosen this life style and all they do with this money is buy drugs and alcohol. Your doing them more harm then good.

The tax payers in SF spend millions of dollars on these clowns, they already get 3 free meals a day and free homeless shelters but most of them don't wish to stay there simply because they can't follow the basic rules. Local residents do not give money to these people, they pray on tourists that don't now better just like yourself.

Did you also know that all these homeless types get over a $1,000. each month from the state? It's because there "Disabled" from drug and alcohol use. And what do you think they do with this money? It's not food or shelter.

The bottom line is these are bums that are attracted to SF because of the handouts. Not some unfortunate sole that lost his job and is now on the streets.

To be fair, it sounded like OP's DH saw four young people with dogs and wanted to help. Not knowing this is a lifestyle choice or an epidemic in SF, I can see that happening. I don't think they should be faulted for it.

That is really really sad. What if someone is actually homeless and needs those resources? The system must be overburdened. I read a review about a year ago when planning a trip to the bay area about the feces and garbage generated in the streets and was pretty appalled.

Definitely homeless youth from other places looking for better climate, free meals and cash for drugs. Sadly, I don't think we will be stopping by San Fran on our next vacation.

Hooverville on meth.

Omggggggg I agree on Seattle. I wad there in January this year and was honestly shocked by how many aggressive homeless there were.

I feel really bad for the dogs they have. Way moreso than the people. Isn't there anything to be done for them, to get them off the streets and into a nokill shelter and get vet care, etc. I know thats terrible, but I can also watch a violent movie no problem as long as an animal doesn't get hurt - then I'm traumatized.

So, please allow me to explain why so many homeless people have dogs here in SF. Cops can easily find a reason to arrest a homeless person. However, if they want to take in someone with a dog they're required to take the dog to a no-kill shelter. The shelters are pretty overwhelmed, and it's a pain in the ass for the cops to find one open to taking yet another pitbull or whatever. So they don't arrest the homeless. Generally they only will arrest if a non-homeless citizen complains. If a shopkeeper complains about homeless camping out outside their store or hassling customers, the cops will move them along elsewhere.

I had a similar.experience when.I went to SF two years.ago. I couldn't stand it. I've visited and lived in several major cities - NY and LA -'and never saw anything like it. Even in Portland where the youth drug culture is.prevalent, the aggressiveness on the street was something I only experienced in SF.

Sounds like they are gaming the system any way they can. That pisses me off, because there are people who actually need the services they are over taxing.
