No, this is different (I think). That sentence pertains to a child who was IB for, say, Wilson but is no longer IB for Wilson. I'm asking about the child who was never IB for Wilson but gained admittance to, say, Hardy, or Hearst. Could they continue on to Wilson? Am I missing something? And the sib preference extends only so long as a sib is in that school. (That's a sensible limitation.) |
"Proposed feeder pattern changes were made to...support racial/ethnic and socio-economic diversity, where possible."
They're really leaning on that "if possible" with the new Wilson boundary. Can't say I'm surprised to see SE/SW cut out but I am pissed. Mostly at Tommy Wells, who (unlike Bowser or Graham, say what you will about them) did absolutely nothing to try and keep folks in Wilson. He is totally in the pocket of folks on Capitol Hill who want to see Eastern improved and don't care that there were kids in Ward 6 who actually had a shot at attending a good high school. Wells said at a community meeting that he'd never met any constituents who'd bought in SW because it was inbounds for Wilson. He is a moron. |
Wilson was, and will continue to be, one of (if not the most) racially diverse school in DCPS. |
I'm the PP. Yeah, I think I'm missing something. I now think you're right: OOB feeder rights are discontinued. This is another positive achievement! |
As I read the text, if your child is attending Hardy or Deal in 2014-15 , s/he will have the ability to continue on to Wilson, regardless of IB or OOB status at the middle or high school level. I expect that additional materials forthcoming from the DME will make this clear. |
SE/SW should have never been in Wilson's boundary in the first place. Now, Eastern has all of the ingredients to be a great school; facility, academic program, student population, etc. Are the adults finally going to start working together? |
You're wrong. Excerpt from my elementary school's document: "Anyone living in the proposed new boundary for XXXXXXX ES is zoned for and has a right to attend Hardy MS and Wilson HS. Any student attending the school out-of-boundary has the right to continue in the feeder pattern to Hardy." Yay! Sorry to burst your bubble PP. I know you were anxious to get rid of us unsavory EotP types. Was never, ever going to happen. |
You're forgetting the most important ingredient: at least one excellent middle school. Most Capitol Hill families that I know are much too focused on the middle school situation to spend any time thinking about improving Eastern down the road. I'm no fan of Wells, but he most certainly didn't have the political capital to continue the SE/SW feed to Wilson and, even of he did, there is no principled basis for doing so. |
Jeff, so am I seeing this correctly? Is Crestwood getting bumped from Wilson? Too bad those maps are static images that you can't zoom in on. |
Yes, removed from Wilson and removed from Deal. |
The way this info is rolling out is really terrible. So folks like Jeff learn that they are removed from Deal and Wilson but you don't yet have the documents for your NEW proposed IB school? |
Lobbying and political games at the exponential level: Shepherd Park is in; Crestwood is out.
How will she have the face to present this? |
Exactly. We know from the Hardy documents that today's third graders can go to Deal. We have no idea where today's second graders will go to middle school. We do know that there is no middle school in Ward 4. |
Just looking the Wilson map is shocking. They'll reach all the way north and capture the top corner for Wilson but cut Crestwood loose? Just visually, it's ridiculous. |
Short-lived celebration. Ending OOB feeder rights was not politically viable. Read the text below the Hardy map. |
