There's a difference btw BELIEVING and KNOWING. And how would you know her FB patterns unless 1) you were ALSO friending her and the "cool" moms or 2) you were spying using a fake account? paranoid |
Moms have the right to advocate, of course. But if they're misguided in their advocacy, teachers have the right to say "no." This is basic, folks. |
Love how the "90% of grades are As" poster has simply vanished. No shame. |
Exactly, but be honest about this. If your kid then gets a C, or worse, don't blame the teacher. You put your kid in that class because you don't want them with the "bad" kids even though you have recognized that they may not have the academic talents to be there. |
Why are we talking about moms? Many children who go to school also have fathers. |
Observant but not paranoid. Regarding Facebook, I've seen her comment on other parents postings (mutual friends). Of course because I have children who have done well in advanced classes after being told 'no", it's easiest just to call me names and attack me than admit the teacher isn't always right. |
The elephant in the room is a deep philosophical question:
Should advanced classes be just for objetively smart kids, the kids with IQ>120 (and the magnets are for kids with IQ>130)? Or should advanced classes be for hard workers too? If the latter, then can you really blame the teachers for being unsure as to whether your IQ=110 kid can work hard enough to succeed? |

Yeah, the poster is BAACK.
Welcome back. Now where is Wharton??? |
NP: In case Ms Wharton is not savvy enough with finding data

I'm pretty sure Wharton is a technical school in SE DC. |
If all these kids are making the MCPS honor roll and getting As no wonder parents are seeking more challenge in the courses from teachers, principals and Mr. Starr.
It is ridiculous that some schools have up to 80% of ALL students on the honor rolls and 30% of ALL students with straight As. I caution my kids everyday not to be bamboozled by this foolishness from adult educators. If getting an A is as easy as pie you are in the wrong classroom. The teachers can't be so brilliant at their craft that the majority of our children are passing with the highest standards. Only a Wharton grad would believe such foolishness. |
NP I had a teacher who told me that my DS needed remedial reading and his standardized test scores were in the 93th percentile. She obviously didn't know what she was doing. |

A link to Cabin John Middle School? One of the richest schools in MCPS? Moreover, it doesn't even prove your point, because it says 73%, not 90%, of their kids made honor roll? Newsflash: in MCPS "honor roll" means Bs, not As. "High honor roll" means As. I'll cut and paste from the site you linked to, where it says that "20.42% of All Students" made high honor roll with all As. Note that 20.4% is not the same as 90%. This is basic MCPS knowledge, so I really have to ask: do you have a kid in MCPS, or do you know anything about the system? Are you kidding us? And you say that we're supposed to prove your 90% statistic by looking up the rest of the schools in the county? Honey, this is your stat, so you need to prove it. With real links to real numbers. Sorry, we all still think you're an idiot, besides being a rude and pompous jerk. Signed, Wharton mom |
What GPA is required to make the MCPS honor roll?
Welcome Ms Wharton. Now let's see if you we taught any math? |
