And even if they do not go to middle school magnet their kids will do well in their local middle school and go on to do very well in high (magnet or non magnet). I know many.

Agreed!

I prepped my son and have no regrets. People are pretty angry and judgmental but people prep for all kinds of reasons. For my child, I worked with him so he'd know what was being asked of him. Although he was not approved for a 504 he has certain processing issues despite being extremely smart. He could have easily spun his wheels through the test had I not let him know what to expect. He got in and deserves to be there. It's the best year he's had. No transition issues at all.

that is what parent's do but I guess being a parent in the 21st century may mean something else to some. what with all the divorces, single parents, 3 time marriages and step mom/dad/spouse this and step-step mom/dad that no wonder dcum is full of selfish and dysfunctional types who brag their kids are self-starters. maybe they have to be since their parents are out to lunch with each other.

I am getting more and more confused. So are you saying that for people who say they did not prep their kids for the elementary school HGC test, the reason they didn't prep their kids was that they were too busy getting busy with people who were not their first spouses?

If you read your cut and paste clip above you will find out what the poster is saying.

Sorry, just thought a gentle reminder was in order.

The wealthiest and whitest school clusters in MoCo all have W's in the name, Whittman, Winston Churchhill, Walter Johnson, Wooton. They produce the highest test scores in the county...either becuase they are fabulous schools or because they have students that are very easy to teach. People either love them or not.

Yes. It's good to keep the following in mind:

Churchill is a W school.
Wheaton is not a W school.

New here. I don't have the time nor patience to dig through all the posts.
Only one question to ask: where to get the test prep. I'm interested and money is not an issue. Thanks in advance.

It's never too late to begin to read, write and compute.

I'm sort of curious too but I doubt the test prep advocates are willing to share that information. It's not in their self interest to lose their kids' or younger sibs/friends' competitive advantage as other posters have pointed out. This thread has gotten way out of control. Save your anxiety for college admissions, folks.

30 min per day in each of these areas will suffice -- week days, weekends and holidays. This test prep worked for my kids. Now, there's our secret.

By whose standards?

Choices:

a)MCPS

b)Whites

c)Asians

d)Other

e) the original poster

From reading these Boards one would think there was a World War 3 on going between the Asians and Whites in our educational institutions, HGCs, magnet programs and TJ.

Asians are not White. Asians are Asians because they always strive for "A", and so the spelling of their race starts with "A". "W" is not a good grade, it means "Withdrawn" and if an Asian was getting a "W" they would be known as "Wsians"

Asian children become very upset when they become "Bsians" or "Csians"...it happens in their schooling sometimes.
