s/o Overrated movies

Disagree on Good Will Hunting. Liked that one and rewatch it often.

Anything by Woody Allen. Even before the accusations came out back in the day, I hated his movies.

Forrest Gump
English Patient, most likely - fell asleep in the first 15 minutes so can't be completely sure
Tarantino generally
Anything Andrew Lloyd Weber

I agree on all that except Love Actually which is much better than most rom coms. The sad think about Titanic is that all the bit parts are great (the engineer who designed it, all the poor people who drowned, the musicians, and the sets and costume are phenomenal. Such a waste by not hiring better writers and stronger leads.

I’d also add:
Ghost
Dances with Wolves
English Patient
Blade Runner
Animal House
Sleepless in Seattle
Shakespeare in Love

Every Mafia movie ever made, including the Godfather I and II. There is never anyone to root for in these movies and all they do is valorize pathetic, petty thugs.

Agree!

Are you both insane?

I must be insane as well. My husband loves this movie. I can't watch it. (And I actually love all most movies, pretty much everything people love and hate on this thread.)

The big lebowski is brilliant.

Agreed. It’s one of my all time favorites. I laugh so hard.

The last two were so funny to me when they came out, but I have no desire to watch them now.

+1

I would put Zoolander and Meet the Fockers in that category. Laughed so much when I watched, would never watch them now. It also might be that I’m so much older now.

Its that it has such a great surprise that you don't see coming

And good highs AND lows

Breakfast Club
La La Land
Not a movie, but Halle Berry’s “Oscar Winning” performance in Monster’s Ball.

+1 Me too! I used to think they weren't enjoyable for me because I wasn't from NY

Boogie Nights (boring)
Silver Linings Playbook (pointless)
There’s something about Mary (not funny)
Shakespeare in love (walked out 30 min in)
Inside out (so annoying)
There will be blood (good grief)

Agree with everything but the last. Daniel Day-Lewis is incredibly talented.

I drink your milkshake.

Most of the films mentions seem appropriately rated. Just cause you personally didn’t enjoy it doesn’t make it overrated. I didn’t love the stories of Titanic and Gravity but they were technological achievements, and I can appreciate that.

I would say Mulholland Drive. I know it’s David Lynch but it was so weird.
