I agree. PP needs to get out more...and away from the shallow end!

Thanks for your support. I gather you're trying to insult me, but you'll need to be more direct if you want me to understand.

Wow, it's pretty dim in here!

Ok, now you've called me narrow, shallow, and stupid. What else do you Holton parents know about me from my anonymous posts?

That you're incapable of telling who is a Holton parent and who is just here for the entertainment value you are providing.

Exactly.

Off topic, but has anyone else heard that there are more than a few rising 11th graders not returning to Holton in the fall? Very worrisome if true.

My DD (rising 9th grader from the MS) has been hearing rumblings since the spring and tells me that "everyone" is talking about it now.

No. I had heard several we're leaving your class and it turns out to be five. It wouldn't surprise me if people leave in high school for all sorts of reasons, tough academics and the looming high cost of college being the main two.

Isn't 5 students approximately 8-10% of a Holton class?

In lower school. 85-90 girls per grade in hs, I think.

If "more than a few" meant that 8 girls (or 10% of the class) were leaving after 10th grade that would be surprising. So the question would be two-fold: 1) How many is "more than a few?" and 2) Is it true that "more than a few" 10th graders are not returning?

I can't imagine that parents would decide to send their daughter to private high school and then suddenly worry about the "looming" costs of college. Also, tough academics should not send students away from a school at 11th grade. It seems to me that a school has an obligation to help students succeed especially at the HA tuition rate. Leaving at 11th grade would have to be addressed in a college application. It is not similar to leaving a school after MS to attend another high school. And 5 leaving after 8th grade is pretty normal.

Five leaving in 11th grade is highly unusual. This has an effect on college applications, so I would think a family would do it only for very strong reasons.

Five are leaving after 8th.

You breathe rarefied air. And, um, is no one in your circle having to face some of the harsh realities of this economy?
