Private & Independent Schools
| What's the big deal? She went and graduated from Holton. So what if it was for a limited time. She is an alum. Why are you all taking such issue with the school for celebrating one of it's alum? Let me guess, your kid attends some other private in the area and you hate that it was not your school or your DD was not admitted to Holton and you have personal reasons for dogging the school for celebrating one its own. Which is it? You all sound like a bunch of haters! |
And Holton Arms' full-page self-puff ad in today's Washington Post gives the deceptive impression that Lagarde is a product of the Holton Arms program. Many European high school foreign exchange students who spend a year in the U.S. have to repeat the grade upon return to Europe. A 1974 Holton Arms yearbook and a Holton Arms 1974 Commencement program would show much regarding whether Christine Lallouette Lagarde is a 'graduate' of Holton Arms. Holton Arms has embellished the school's resume'. |
| Well the school had her speak at the school in 2007 and she referred to herself as a graduate and spoke very highly of her time at the school. So I suppose if she considers herself a product of Holton then the school has not embellished their resume. I think you just can't accept the idea that this school has such an accomplished alum. Holton is a wonderful school so I am not at all surprised that that an influential leader has come from this school. |
Does Lagarde consider herself a product of Holton Arms? Apparently she contributed much to H A upon her arrival from France: (from H A website) - "Resourceful and independent, analytical and astute, she brought a veritable richness to our student body.” H A's self-puff full-page ad, plus the front page over the fold full-length feature story on Lagarde's accomplishment in today's Washington Post synergistically produce much positive attention in all things Lagarde. Holton Arms's ad leads all who see it to think that Lagarde's academic and character formation are due to Holton Arms, which is a deliberate exaggeration on H A's part. Class of 1974? Please, stop now..... Tell us no more of your exaggerated impression of your school. |
|
why did she only attend one year?
was the school not good enough to attend 4 full years of high school instead of only 1? |
|
Ok...if you went to Sidwell for...two years, you're not really an alum. If you went to NCS for...three years, you're not really an alum. If you went to Maret for...four years, well ok, maybe you can have a half page ad.
Please people, could we be a little less small minded. The IMF needs help, looks like they have found a person up to the job. |
Read page 1. She was an exchange student. |
| Women are such witches...jealous much? Go back to hausfraudom and stop with the green. |
|
Nobody is envious, they are all laughing at HA for taking out a full page ad for an exchange student. HA puts the HA in HA, HA.
|
And you put the HA in HATER!!! She attended the school. She considers herself and alum. The school did not just decide to consider her an alum, she refers to herself as an alum. No need to laugh at Holton for taking out the ad, they can certainly afford it! In fact, they could take out an ad everyday this week if they wanted to and it would not hurt them financially. Not too many schools in this area can say that. So have a laugh, it does not change anything and you will see the school's endowment will continue to grow and see who gets the last laugh. |
|
Maybe the school didn't find the need to detail her exchange student status because most people reading the ad know that she's French, and was only in the states briefly. She is a popular public figure and her biography is being detailed throughout the news Though it seems to have missed at least part of the drum population!).
As for HA, I'm guessing the school was attempting to reach a wider audience than dcum, and the threads like this are largely irrelevant to the school. |
The Washington Post was probably lobbied by Holton Arms supporters to promote Lagarde and Holton Arms in the first place. The H A supporters' purchase of the full-page self puff ad on the same day the article appeared probably was a factor in the prominent page 1 placement of the article, titled "France's Lagarde tapped to olead IMF". . The H A supporters probably tried to further leverage the ad buy into crafting an article headline more to their liking, e.g. "Holton Arms alum Lagarde to lead IMF". In the meantime, the public gets duped into thinking Lagarde's accomplishments are due to H A, and H A supporters are glad perpetuate H A's exaggerated reputation and will therefore increase their financial support of the school. In the end, it is the Washington Post who gets the last laugh. |
Hate to say it, but I'm not sure why they didn't go with the Mexican economist who rebuilt banking in Mexico. Isn't she a lawyer, not an economist??? Seems like some weird affirmative action or reverse discrimination.... can't embrace. |

Why on earth would any woman think highly of the IMF? The IMF and the entire elite establishment KNEW Strauss-Kahn was a predator --- not just a womanizer --- and yet they promoted him and hoped that he would be the next president of France. It's not just that they KNEW and did nothing; they KNEW before he got the job!
Watch this youtube video of Tim Geithner answering a question about whether he was aware of the "predatory atmosphere" at the IMF. What a weasel. |
