Must have been a really competitive year. Congrats to everyone who got what they hoped for! For those who didn't, hope your kids don't take it personally. The system is complete and total crapshoot even for the competitive schools.

Interesting. I have to say, I didn't think Banneker was all that tough of an admit. I honestly thought they accepted nearly all their applicants and weren't like Walls.

DCUM certainly pushes that narrative.

I think it's harder than it used to be. My DD 7th is pining to go.

I actually think it's just that people used to say whatever they wanted about Banneker with zero first-hand information and it was mostly informed by racism. Now that the "DCUM" kind of people are priced out of privates and running out of spots at J-R and SWW, all of a sudden they're "taking a chance" on the school they considered themselves benevolent pioneers for even considering, only to find out . . . it's not a cakewalk just because it's full of black kids.

DCUM kind of people would never be priced out of privates. The problem is people who don't belong on DCUM are now on here.

omg what.

"people who don't belong" -- care to spell this out for us? race, class? Say what you mean (and take the consequences).

The people who are now priced out of privates.

Financial aid is so generous at DMV private schools I wonder who is actually priced out.

Is this true? I’ve always thought our family’s income was too high to qualify but way too low for it to be a wise financial move.

For those who thought Banneker isn't competitive, last year Banneker had 1,159 applicants for the 9th grade class and made offers to just 254.

(Yes, some who didn't get an offer at Banneker might've matched at a school they ranked higher, but that is probably a small number of the total who didn't get in. For example, even if we were to assume that all 190 kids who matched at SWW also applied to Banneker and ranked it lower, that would still leave 715 other kids who didn't get into Banneker.)

Does anyone have an estimate of when the data will be up? I can’t remember last year how long Tableau took to get the full data.

You should be good.

Where should we estimate the Cooper and/or 2nd St WL cut offs to be for 5th? We are ~#30 & ~#40 for each campus, but I was assuming they wouldn't go further than ~#15 unless a class is being added?

You can see the historical data here. Latin is always the prettiest girl at the ball, so it doesn't go very far into its waitlist.

You should really check. I know of families with HHI of $350-400k on financial aid. It really depends on your specific circumstances.

I think it was 4/3 last year—so about a week later

Usually within two weeks of results day.

No it’s not. We did not get any aid at all with private.

You would have probably matched with Cooper a few years ago but I think those days are over. They only made 16 waitlist offers last year. They do not add classes.

For 1st Grade honestly, not too bad. Hope there's some hope but not worrying about it. Turning down Barnard where we matched.

Eaton WL #16
Janney WL #16
Murch WL #16
Yu Ying PCS WL #18
Stoddert WL#17
Mann WL #7
Maury WL #24
Hyde-Addison WL #11
Key WL #11
ITDS WL #9

You've got some chance at Stoddert, MAYBE Yu Ying or Mann if you get super lucky. But you should almost certainly get a spot at HA before school starts. Good luck!

Got into Yu Ying pk4. We are Chinese American so excited about it but still uncertain because we love our neighborhood school community and the commute. Any recent feedback about Yu Ying?

Anonymous wrote:#1 spot on waitlist for SWS for K, let's go. If not that will hopefully get Maury or Ludlow (our IB is not good).

I am surprised that a #1 spot for SWS didn't get you into Ludlow. What is your WL number there?

Okay, I'm confused about the enrollment process. I'm at a DCPS school and have gotten a lottery seat at a different DCPS school. Clicking on the various links leads me to Aspen, and I can see my kids' accounts there. The home page of Aspen says:

“To Re-Enroll students and other forms” = RE-ENROLLING students are categorized as:
• Any Current DCPS Student:
• Students who are currently enrolled in any DCPS school, including students being assessed by Early Stages, during the current school year.
• Students who are transferring from any DCPS elementary to middle or middle to high school.
• Students transferring from one DCPS school to another DCPS school.

So I think that's us (transferring from one DCPS school to another DCPS school) but when I go to the form, there's no way to indicate a school. I don't want to accidentally re-enroll in my current school. Am I doing this right? Will there be like a drop down at the end where I choose the actual school.

I live in fear of accidentally turning down my spot at the new school!
