This meet had a lot of issues. Not allowing parents who paid to enter the bleachers because the host pool’s people failed to come to scan the codes so parents were standing in line for an hour at finals tonight was the worst one.

And most other LSCs don’t exist in areas where the high school season is so meaningful. The private school kids grinded through weeks of championship meets and are prepping for bigger meets. The public school kids are coming off state champs. None of these kids care about this meet and they are mentally and physically trying to recharge.

lol. At least in MD, public school state champs are a side show. Nobody gaf. And no private school kids "grinded" through anything. I guess metros was a grind with the weather and the crappy venue/timeline. Why don't they have this at UMD or Fairland?? Instead of in a shoebox? That place sucks. No space, no cell signal, zero degrees and blowing snow.

Obviously they make the event (this week) appealing and accessible enough to pay for it. Because they have to pay for it. Renting UMd so all of your 8 kids (apparently all ringer parents bloviate here) can battle in just an A final with no prelim will mean a high cost to you for Muffy and Blaise to claim their PV SC titles.

This was one of the better meets I have attended. It was very well run. Certainly better than IMX a few months ago.

I don’t think anyone has an issue with the AAA/AAAA swimmers, it was more that this meet is so bloated because the QTs are so soft, there were 6 heats of finals for most events, and it had a bonus structure that was unnecessary.

I have less of an issue with finals. It wasn’t that different from the Junior/Senior Champs number of finals. Sessions started earlier and were only about 2-2:30 hours, pretty quick for our sport. Agreed on prelims, they could do without the bonus events, limit them to one bonus, or have bonus standards

The ticket said doors would open at 3pm. I went out walking, so I don't know exactly when they opened, but it was for sure after 4.

For girls, this is pretty accurate. If you aren’t a high level swimmer by age 15, the chance that you will become one is extremely low. Pointing out facts is not some kind of personal affront.

Again, even if that is accurate, the person is saying find a new sport to someone making their first final over the age of 14. They also didn’t specify boys/girls. Should this sport only be for high level swimmers or is it allowed that swimmers who are late bloomers find some joy in their achievements? Maybe just don’t be so elitist

You think wrong, they did not. There was a shorter break between prelims and finals, but they started finals as irondale scheduled and left parents standing in the hall for and hour.

You’re throwing around elitist as though it’s an insult, but this is a champs meet not the November Open so there is a level of “elitism” built in 🙄 I don’t agree that people need to find a new sport, swimming is a sport for life which is part of what makes it awesome, but there is something off about a senior champs meet with the low standards this one has.
