Stop romanticizing them. She had a serious drug problem and it was only a matter of time before they were divorced. His hubris killed all three on the plane because he was not certified for night flying. |
85-90. As a PP mentioned, Christina was the only one both mother and sister liked. Both were snobs about educational pedigree, which was a strike against Carolyn. Of course John cheated on Christina regularly, including with Daryl Hannah, so that pre-dates the timeline given here. |
There is no evidence she had a serious drug problem. None. There is gossip she did cocaine recreationally with her fashion world friends, shocking I know in the 80s and 90s. But she was almost certainly taking prescription meds for anxiety and depression in her final years. |
She did the lingerie wedding dress early in the trend. |
I agree, idk why rumors persist that she was a raging drug addict. Heroin chic was "in" when she lived in NYC, and there were certainly plenty of people addicted to drugs who looked ill. Carolyn presented as polished and slim but not underweight until the day she tragically died. Maybe she dabbled but I doubt she was a drug addict. |
| John Jr. was the best-looking Kennedy in the family, imho. Also better looking than the Bouviers. |
His grandfather Bouvier was VERY handsome as a young man. A drunk, of course he quickly lost his good looks. There is a resemblance. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/71424344074302349/ |
| I don’t know how anyone sees this as a love story. It was toxic AF. |
They were also, rich. Which apparently enough for stupidity to be seen as a tragedy. If they had been poor, people here would n’t remember their names. |
"Black Jack"? Yes, also has the dark handsome good looks. |
+1 Maybe around the time of the wedding and shortly after, when they were gorgeous, glamorous, and seemed happy. There did seem to be far more toxicity than good times though. Agree with those that think it wouldn't have lasted, and that neither of those two should be seen as aspirational beyond some superficial attributes. |
Most pilots in training don't take that risk. The problem is he did. |
Right. It's not like they were going to physically prevent him from going. It was a judgment call, and a poor one on his part. Visibility was fine at altitude but not upon descent. They should have waited and left at sunrise the next morning. From the post-accident report: One pilot, referenced in the report, said that visibility was unrestricted at 14,000 feet, but as he began his descent toward Nantucket over Martha's Vineyard, he looked down and, "…there was nothing to see. There was no horizon and no light...I turned left toward Martha's Vineyard to see if it was visible but could see no lights of any kind nor any evidence of the island…I thought the island might (have) suffered a power failure." |
Their relationship was far too volatile pre-marriage to have apositive outcome. Off and on, several breakups, physical fights. They never should have married in the first place. The fact that he only got serious then proposed less than a year after Jackie's death suggests he made an emotional decision to try to grow up the way his mom had wished. |
\ np Read the book 'Ask not" The Kennedy men and the women they destroyed. None of the Kennedy men come out looking good |
