Agreed 9/1 was the better choice. 🫡

9/1+30/60 is even better.

You get the 9/1 cutoff but if players can prove their grade and were born 30 or 60 days before 9/1 they can play with that group.

This addresses players playing down and also gets rid of the edge case trapped players.

Yea I saw a the ECNL guys mention this at minute 3:25

https://youtu.be/lMbhMm4dmA0?si=1vXH7NKt_dri0t5J

Finally! some people get it.

Leagues don't have to be 100% binary. There are options that can be implemented that address trapped players entirely even the edge case SY ones.
Pay attention. They aren't ECNL guys and don't mention allowing players to cheat and play down.

One person mentions having Sept play up a year if they are up a grade. It would be pointless if course because players can always play up.

One of the guys from the video is an ECNL girls coach. Sounds like they are looking into options.

The best one of course being grad year baby! Hold those 8th graders back!!
idk if one random coach and a side training Klingon taking shop over 6 months ago is a signal that they are in the know on real deliberations.

For sure… the random ECNL coach seemed like he has heard some real info on what is being discussed. Which is more credible than most things we read or hear about.

He knew that somthing like 9/1+30/60 was being considered. Mathmatically it just makes sense.

ECNL will likely implement some kind of rule to not allow Aug birthdays to play down. If their district starts on an odd date allowing it.
Not even close to his rambling. You are having + delusions in your continuation of a pump and dump scheme of an idea.

Please explain how allowing Aug birthdays to play down a grade helps ECNL. I'll wait...

Recruiters will be looking at a team of players that are graduating in X but theres 1 or 2 that are graduating in Y? From a recruiters perspective this is annoying because they're not graduating the year that youre expecting. But also how do you evaluate a player that might look really good but they're playjng against teams where most players are a year younger.

You are dumb
ECNL, like all leagues, is balancing maximizing revenue by convincing customers of a bright future (college ball). If the customers feel that there is cheating or the perception of cheating, they will raise Cain, as seen by the interest in said topic. College coaches aren't the true revenue source, they are a marketing vehicle.

ECNL is going to allow GY for U18/19 I already got that info from ECNL directly.
If you’re in high school you will be allowed to compete even if held back.

Will not affect the younger age groups. U13-17

It’s the chicken or the egg argument.
I believe parents will go wherever the college coaches are. If they are still favoring ECNL showcases parents will fill those roster spots always and forever.

Speculation: Come Spring, registration systems will have been updated to use SY. August - December bdays will be registered with the younger birth year teams.

Speculation 2: ECNL/RL teams will play the second half of the season (April - June) using SY. Lower teams, NPL, flights 1, 2, 3... will play Summer tournaments using SY.

Which futsal club already starting tryout next week?

One in Southern California. The season's playoffs ended about 6 weeks ago.

Does anyone have a clue what MLS Next 2 teams will do? Are they staying BY or moving to Aug 1?

Don't you mean MLSN Academy? There is no MLSN2. MLSN1 doesn't exist either, it is MLSN Homegrown. Just FYI.

But to answer you question, no one knows. Heck, half the clubs still haven't found out what they are supposed to be calling the league and they are three weeks from kickoff.

MLS hasn’t announced this anywhere I’ve seen. Is this just rumors and vibes too?

The clubs themselves are already using this. We were told by our MLSN club about the name changes (in a long email). If you haven't heard this then you are likely not closely connect to an MLSN club.

Here are some examples of this being used: triangleunited.org/new-page | gfiacademy.com/pages/mls-next | prfcyouthsoccer.com/elite-platforms/mls-next/ |

Two futsal clubs in our area are going SY at tryouts now.

“If you haven’t heard this then you are likely not closely connected”…what a BS, douchey, uppity thing to say.

LOL, that is exactly the thing your typical MLsN parent would say.

GA is changing to 8/1 I think.

Response from GA director

The GA is changing the birth year cut off and aligning with other organizations. They announced it at the AGM this summer.

I don't like MLSN at all! It is just the truth. You would have heard if you had a kid playing in it, etc. Not trying to be snarky. Sorry if someone hurt you in the past lol! I personally think it is the worst run league out there.

No way, who would have guessed?

Unsubstantiated rumor.

Just another random guess.

Ugh… it “Ugh”, the MLSN/GA nut hugger guy that cannot seem to process any information that may insinuate MLSN/GA is switching. Even if it becomes a full press release and in 2026 his July kid is playing on MLSN2, he will still be calling it a random guess.
