I don’t think detention in private school is a thing. For serious issues, they call the parents and if the parents can’t get the child together, eventually they’ll be suspended/expelled and their enrollment contract won’t be renewed. At SR the girls get infractions for minor issues, and if they get enough of them, they may lose some sort of privileges, subject to teacher discretion.

How do infractions work?

I asked my daughter and she said basically you can get an infraction for things like being late, talking back, uniform infractions (e.g. too short skirt). If a teacher witnesses the infraction the student gets an email (though I think a lot of the time the girls are let off with a warning). My daughter says 6 infractions and you get suspended. YMMV

How good is their drama program. Do they hold auditions for the play like the do sports. My DD wants to do both volleyball and the fall play. (She is in upper school). And what happens if you don't attend the sports practices? Do they just not give you credit?

Yes they hold auditions for sports. If she is trying to do both sport and play she needs to talk to the coach/teacher directing the play about logistics.

Typically when are the fall play auditions held?

DP but I think what they mean if the fall play was before school like how sports tryouts were. The PP already seems to know the hold auditions for sports.

They do have detention for things like unexcused tardies. Believe at least for upper school it is outlined in the handbook which is available on their website.

Most likely in early to mid September. I don't think the play is even announced before the school year starts. They have a good theatre program with multiple acting opportunities throughout the school year. While I don't know about the play rehearsals I do know that volleyball is 5 days a week so she will most likely need to choose one. As for not attending practices I don't know the punishment.

If you tryout for a team and make it, you are required to come to practice. Fall sports start before school starts (preseason in mid August) and the fall play auditions are in September when girls are back in school. Your DD will need to discuss logistics and feasibility of doing both with the drama teacher and coach. Some coaches for some sports are more flexible and some teams are more intense than others so it really just depends.

New family for class of 2029. Is there a group me/facebook page or anything for parents to connect?

How is the Lower School?

All new SR families should have a mentor family for these types of questions. If you haven’t heard from your mentor family you should contact the school.
