She said people are cutting back and she has no customers, I thought to myself that well this takes care of the income tax problem, no income so no tax.

I can’t believe the stupidity of small businesses and non fed people, they didn’t bother to think that if their clients lose jobs then they lose business, but here we are. I have a couple of relatives in Baltimore who voted for Trump and their business sales are in the dump. I have zero sympathy.

Btw, I am not a Fed but I have 2 brain cells to figure out that pretty much everything in DC is tied to the Federal government.

You seem to be suggesting that people in America should vote for what's best for the people in the DC metro area? Why would someone in Illinois vote so that DC area workers are employed by the government?

What a dumba$$, thinking that Feds only exist in DC.

Exactly. Dumb AF. The majority work outside DC and universities that get fed funding for research have to cut. Many of these are in MAGA land and confederate country. WSJ had a story.

Goodbye, U Alabama!

Not just Alabama will be impacted. They are the only state with a university getting NIH funding.

https://www.americanprogress.org/article/how-cuts-to-nih-research-funding-would-hurt-states/

They don't care. They make $100 million yearly off their football program

And they get almost $400 million in cut-targeted NIH funding according to the article…football is not going to save them or the jobs in the state that are covered by this funding.

And… the football is in Tuscaloosa while the NIH funding goes to UAB. Not in the same location.

The dude who’s pictured in the NYT article in the first tweet did not vote for Trump, though other farmers interviewed did.

And, these cuts affect DC based feds a lot more. Feds outside of DC might lose their job, but their community will remain robust. Real estate won't crater, and the job market will won't be oversaturated the way it will be in DC.

DC feds are hosed. RIP the job market, real estate market, tax base, etc.

Maybe. However, RTO could boost the DC economy. When COVID hit and everyone started WFH, local restaurants, dry cleaners, coffee shops, hair salons, professional clothing stores, etc had to lay off a lot of workers or close entirely. RTO for federal workers, even a reduced number, could have a ripple effect by boosting these businesses. Similarly, companies contracting with the government may move their offices to DC in order to be closer to their customers, and the number of trade shows may increase as well.

I'm not spending on any of the above until further notice. Too risky.

Notice from whom? And any cutbacks will only be temporary. Once you're more comfortable with your current situation, you will spend on these things.

As for when, Trump and DOGE need to be done with their shock and awe before things gear up for the midterms, which means Christmas of this year, if not earlier (they won't want to be Grinch, so probably October). Identifying fraud and waste will continue because those are a cudgel the GOP can wield against vulnerable Democrats.

They have a 180-day plan. Washington Post got a copy of it.

The notice would be from me. Who else is going to give me a notice when we have a government that has eliminated communications from federal agencies??

Of course, we hope cutbacks are only temporary. Most of those things though? I won't go back and spend on them. I make my own coffee or don't drink it. I know how to cut my own hair. I rarely need a dry cleaner.

Great, so we know the current chaos will last 6 months. Will the government resemble what it was? No, it won't. But families will figure things out. This is not a general state of turmoil for the economy like the Great Depression, Great Recession, or even Covid-19. It is a rapid restructuring of the Federal government. Many wish Trump would have done what Clinton did in the 1990s and take 6 months to study the problem, then reduce the Federal workforce by 377k jobs. Trump made a determination that he didn't have 6 months to do what needed to be done. So he skipped the study and went straight to offering buyouts, etc...

Because, why again? Is that when Musk takes over officially, or is it Vance?

If you're an American that cares and pays attention to politics, you know that there is plenty of anger and blame to casts towards both of our awful major political parties. Trump and the GOP are in control now so it's inevitably fair and normal for most anger to be directed their way. Get used to it because if history tells us anything, Trump's popularity will dwindle substantially between now and the end of his second term.

There is just no comparison. GOP wants autocracy bc of demographic change which has resulted in them winning the popular vote only twice in the last 30 years. Let's not forget the conservative white guys who have basically been fighting against a changing society since the early 1970s. Throw in Murdoch et al radicalizing old white men and hands down the GOP is the problem.

All true my friend but it takes two unprecedentedly weak major parties to allow for a political vacuum that puts Trump in the most powerful position in the world for 8 out of 12 years. GOP has very big obvious problems. Dem Party desperately needs leadership and direction that would prevent the party with the big obvious problems from being in power. It is what it is.

You bring that up like it matters. The popular vote is irrelevant. Learn how to play the game by the rules that are in place, and you’ll win more

Hi, OP here. Can we get back to the topic? I want to hear shadenfreud. I’m absolutely not here for Feds losing their jobs unless they were big MAGA like the one in Houston (few pages back).

This thread is for gallows humor.

The way RTW is being carried out is an absolute sh*tshow. Dh was at work until 7:30 last night trying to help figure out where people were going to sit. That said, I would have supported a more reasonable and methodical RTW. For most people, I just don’t think it’s healthy to be alone all day. Gen z already has atrocious social skills. I hate the thought of them working from home and never catching up. And, I think you are correct that it would boost local economies if more people were out and about during the day.

Again, the way this was carried out is unacceptable. But I do think it’s time for a gradual RTW.

This is so dumb. I'm more productive at home and my numbers prove it.

Hey, Trump yesterday cut the people working on the US nuclear stockpile. Then realized what the people cut were actually working on and DOE is now trying to contact the fired people to hire them back. Dont try to make it look like a rational process for something that needed to be done. This is just destroying the government and consequences will be dired

I know, innocent people are being hurt but except for the white woman (with clothes with no holes and a nice looking house) they should know! A farmer who doesn’t know who he’s selling to? Sounds like a bad business person. He deserves this. Or the Venezuelan who thought she would be an exception but was fine with Africans and other Latinos to be deported? Idiot.

I’m not on ticktock where most people are posting. Please share. Yeh, I’m petty.

The womqn who lost SNAP did so because she bought a bunch of soda on sale with SNAP at Walmart and dumped it all out in the parking lot to get the cash for the cans. A police officer saw her

I have watched people do the same thing - though usually they get the on-sale 24 pack of bottled water for about $3 to $4

They can only buy fentanyl/ liquor / cigarettes with CASH because SNAP / EBT won’t pay.

How do they get cash from bottled water?

And how does s person lose SNAP for recycling her cans? That's not fraud.

I work for state government in a Republican Governor state. We are hearing rumors that we're required to return to the office soon. People who voted for this Republican Governor are pissed. Thanks, morons.

Apparently someone will waste $50 in food aid to redeem $5 in bottle deposits or $2 tops in scrap aluminum? Because that’s the only way I see anyone making money wasting bottles or cans…

Every Fed I know is tightening the belt and intentionally spending less, intentionally packing lunch and skipping coffee. Did you think people were just going to internalize an extra $2-3k expense and spend like it’s 2019?

+1. My DH is fed (I am not), a kid is college and one in mid HS. If he loses his job our income will be almost halved. You can bet we are only spending on food, utilities, gas.
