Score:
Prep 12 - Gilman 7. GP better than people thought
Landon 9 - MSJ 8. Landon trying to figure it out
Severn 13 - STA 6. Not as competitive as STA hoped
STM 7 - PVI 8 Good win for PVI to start
St Pauls 16 - SJC 15 0-2 not the start the Cadets wanted
BL 9 - GZ 8 Moral victories aren't how GZ rolls

Saturday, March 8 Schedule
Sts Peter & Paul (0-1) at Our Lady of Good Counsel (1-0)
St Christopher's - VA - (0-0) at Bullis (3-0)

Based on my observation, GP is flying under the radar this year and will compete for an IAC championship and DC area bragging rights. Hoyas are balanced.

Landon needs to figure out its offensive woes. Bears are always well coached and I suspect they will have it figured out by league-play come April.

STA must be down as I don't think Severn is particularly strong this year, the Admirals are a very young squad with a new coaching staff. A bit surprised by the performance.

SJC is younger than people are giving them credit for. Speaks is playing an insane non-league schedule to open up the season. Gilman on the road is a must-win for the Cadets.

GZ is always athletic and plays hard. I wouldn't ever rule them out despite not having the high profile recruits on their roster this year. Losing to BL in Overtime on the road and dealing with Baltimore homer refs is nothing to hang your head on.

Bullis has the talent to compete with anyone. Bellistri is playing a softer schedule this year, despite having a loaded roster, it will be interesting to see how it pays off once league play begins.

Neutrals Rankings:

1. Prep
2. Bullis
3. GZ
4. Landon
5. SJC

I have said several times on this thread, the margin of talent between these 5 teams above is rather thin right now. Anyone one of these teams could beat one another. Will be very interesting to see which program improves over the course of the season. Championships are won in May, not in March.

SJC issues has nothing to do with being young. This is a coaching issue. They were up 5 vs BL and 6 vs St Paul's. This team cannot score and close games out like teams with a winning culture.

Speaks is a talented coach but doesn’t appear to dedicate as much time to recruiting as he did in past, which is a tell. His 2028 class is tiny and they barely have enough players to field a JV team now. He’s acting like a coach thats planning on making a move to a new program or bumping up to an Asst role with an elite college program.

I have a feeling there's going to be a lot of lacrosse kids choosing the WCAC in the next 3 years.

What does this mean? Why did Speaks bring in so few 28s? Is he leaving SJC after this season?

You have to have the families apply. Any crazy lacrosse family was going to avoid SJC with the stacked 26 and 27 classes.

Quality over quantity all day.

More realistic explanation is that too many quality club players aren’t seeing the field and families know they never will at some schools. It’s not just SJC. GZA cut a large number of club lax playing juniors this spring. A number of elite DMV HS lax programs that had huge JV teams just a few years ago now struggle to field a JV team. Talent is dispersing because playing is better than watching.

I agree and this is a tough one. There are really good club kids who won't see the field as a junior or senior. School teams literally only play 4 poles and 4 attack unless it's a blowout either way and a blowout means an 8+ goal lead with 4 to play. Do you cut the junior and seniors to get the promising freshman and sophomores more reps or put the freshman on sophomores on jv and risk the backlash? GZ increasingly has chosen to cut the upperclassmen. Families want to go to a good program with good coaching, but the play time exists elsewhere and the coaching is nowhere near as good.

I agree with most of this post about talent dispersing. More parents have figured out that if their son enjoys lax and plays club but risks getting cut as a junior or has no obvious chance of playing significant minutes until Sr year at best, then they’re at the wrong school. There are more good coaches in the area now than those just at traditional powers - see GC and DM in WCAC this year or the former SJC asst coach at SSSA in the IAC. More options to play more, and sooner, is better than getting cut or being a cheerleader

It's possible but the only people who care is you. We play the toughest schedule possible against the best players in the Country. Only way to get better and prepare for the next level. Keep beating your chest playing scrubs!
It's already been established GP and Landon play equal or actually more top teams. They just win the games occasionally. Going now 0hfer the last 7 OOC against those type teams, really anyone can do that.

#44?

Can you not? That is a child. One million things happened that affected the score. before and after whatever penalty you’re talking about.

Stop with the think of the children BS. These are mature boys playing public games available for anyone to watch. If one chooses to play in this environment then they should be ready to deal with the consequences of their actions.

Classy. Keep it up DCUM. I bet you are an amazing parent.

Sorry little snowflake had their feelings hurt. If they can’t handle a little criticism about the game maybe they should find another hobby.

especially if the kid chooses to play dirty, he's gonna get called out

He has played dirty and headhunted since he got to SJC. Seemingly he has been rewarded for it as behavior has not changed. No point in ignoring it and pretending it will change.

huh? I thought SJC had at least 8-9 players from the Next Level 2028 and DC Express 2028 teams, which are two of the strongest club teams in the class. am I wrong?

The 27 class on that roster is very weak beyond one really great player. They need to backfill quickly.

The 27 class was undefeated at the JV level with the closest game being 3 goals. They also had 9 players floating between JV and varsity. Of the 8 or 9 28's from NL or DCE, only 2 will receive any play time prior to senior year. SJC is just fine.

Any noteworthy games scheduled for today?

Big slate of games scheduled for tomorrow afternoon.

I’m confused. Gonzaga is down from their high due to lack of talent and they are cutting talented juniors? Something doesn’t make sense.

No games today.

Bullis at St. Paul's on Wednesday will be a big test for the soft schedule start.

They are talented just not as good as the guys in front of them and they don't have room for them and they will never see the field. This the problem with the GZ, Prep and SJC schools of the world. Go where you can play and don't be a watcher!

No chance this is true. No club player in the Jr class at GZ got cut.
