Vance Toured Stone Ridge

Most of us are not involved in day to day events, but there are times when community feedback is requested and parents weigh in. Conversations with other families at events formal or informal are not generally (thank goodness) political in nature, but it’s nice when people bring different perspectives and experiences to the table. I don’t think the Vance family coming to SR will have a profound impact but getting to know people who are different than you—by whatever measure—is important. It’s much easier to demonize people when you never interact with them.

But should we not demonize those who demonize others, particularly historically marginalized minority communities who lack a voice and access to power. In short, should we tolerate intolerance?

Most of you should go to the politics index!

Yes, you should. Unless you want to be intolerant yourself. See how that works?

So you are saying you should tolerate people who persecute others? You are saying we should never call out bad behavior, especially behavior that HURTS other, vulnerable people, in the name of "tolerance".

FFS.

NP. No, I don't. What a bunch of rationalizing BS.

Is there any chance to erase all the comments about Vance’s character and political views? They can create another post in the politics index. I even wonder if this post belongs here. Who cares what schools he attended.

Try telling that to Jewd.

You can also choose not to keep re-reading them.

*HE* is Catholic. I think she is a Hindu?

In any case, my kids attend a school way too liberal for them to consider. But for the kids’ sake, I don’t think I would mind if they attended our school. My concern might be the scrutiny that would come along with such an extreme (and non-tolerant) public figure. It might be that SR’s approach to inclusion, facts/history and critical thinking could come under attack if all the MAGA’s go crazy about some kind of talking point of an element of their curriculum.

Most conservatives would be fine at a liberal school. I doubt Vance would even consider the politics at a school.

Don't know why they'd want their kids in a place where the majority of families will hate them.

Really? Hate?

Just move out of the country already.

As a former SR Parent, I hope their daughter winds up at SR. It's great to have diversity of thought/ideas contrary to what many seem to think on this thread and the posts many others make on DCUM. I remember when it was ok to have different political opinions and we could all still come together as Americans.

+1 from another SR parent. I’m not a huge fan of the guy (to put it mildly) and I’m not exactly hoping he ends up at SR BUT I don’t think it’s a bad thing if they did. Diversity of thought is crucial to a vibrant and healthy community. We need to relearn how to disagree without it becoming a personal attack.

There is a difference between "different opinions" and someone wanting to take away your rights. It is a personal attack.

Assuming you are in Maryland, where SR is located, tell us what rights Trump/Vance have taken away from women.

My DD is friends with Conway's lovely daughters at SR and I have socialized with both parents at school events. Politics doesn't come up. Sorry folks.

And I am a D who really dislikes DT's character.
