They won't cut social security or Medicare, either. Whatever blather they are saying.

Exactly. They’re not touching it. It’s all talk.

Nah. They’ll have to.

Social security benefits will be cut 25% for everyone 10 years from now if Congress doesn’t work out a solution. They cannot avoid touching social security, the only solution is raising taxes, cutting benefits, or some combination of both.

They are going to have to herd all those cats in the House since the majority is so tight. They have had trouble in the past. Then, they have to do the same in the Senate.

I am not doom and glooming. We shall see how it unfolds. T likes flashy popular things he can take credit for - he doesn’t care about the nitty gritty or actually doing anything.

Cut these programs if that's how the country wants to go but phase it in.

That's not how the country wants to go. It's how one man wants to go. The point of our government is that it is a system of checks and balances. If the congress has anything to say about it, neither Medicare nor Social Security are going anywhere any time soon. If the Congress doesn't weigh in, well, then we have even bigger problems.

Trump has said he's not cutting them. A few in Congress have proposed it, and the unofficial, unappointed and unelected DOGE have suggested it. Posters are just getting excited in their doom-and-glooming and catastrophizing.

Promises have been made. MAGA expects 2-3 trillion cut from the budget. You can not do that by cutting government employees. This is what Trump and every republican ran on. It will happen.

Cutting Govt workers is a good start and saves money in the future too.

Start with the uniform military and contractors.

Rep. Rich McCormick (R-Ga.) said Tuesday that lawmakers will ultimately face tough choices on spending in next year’s unified GOP government, suggesting cuts may be coming to social welfare programs

We’re going to have to have some hard decisions. We got to bring the Democrats in to talk about Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare. There’s hundreds of billions of dollars to be saved, and we know how to do it, we just have to have the stomach to actually take those challenges on,” McCormick told Fox Business Network’s Maria Bartiromo

This will be fun to watch because at the same time congressional republicans are cutting these benefits they will be giving tax breaks to the rich. You know they will also go after the VA and veterans’ disability.

Yup

But Musk said he would cut 2 trillion? Guess we can look forward to an additional 2 trillion in debt plus high inflation, high unemployment and the tariff taxes on the working and middle classes.

This is looking worst and worst each time he opens his mouth.

The government has essentially been outsourced to the consulting firms. If we want a functioning government (and clearly the GOP doesn't) then someone has to do the work, either staff or outsourced. Outsourced is more expensive, but hey, the GOP has been "cutting the government" since the 1980's, so its all good, right?

I wish they'd cut SS and let me invest it. I'd make so much more ROI. SS makes my retirement worse.

Healthcare is also a huge problem. Americans pay four times for healthcare: Medicare taxes, Medicaid with federal and state taxes, and for their own health insurance. Rising healthcare costs are considered a significant factor contributing to stagnant wages, low retirement planning among younger generations, and increased death.

Not for nothing but Trump is on to something when he says illegal immigration decimates our healthcare system.

Illegal immigrants are not really using our healthcare system, no matter how much the Gop is scaring you into believing that.

The solution for healthcare is universal. It would solve all of the problems people complain about. Obama implemented the Heritage Foundation solution for healthcare thinking he would get bi-partisan support. he should have just gone for Unviersal and called it a day.

I don’t know about other states but in CA they have access not only to Medicaid but also to in home support services when the state pays for elder care in home.

Exactly. And, if they present themselves for care at an ER the hospital is legally required to treat them.

If they don't cut defense and cut health care/social benefits first, there will be a very unhappy populace. Look for big changes in the midterms if this is what they do.
