Republicans in congress say big cuts coming to Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare.

Though he has proposed exempting SS payments from taxes which is a dumb plan that would help bankrupt the program. I'm hoping that could be explained to voters well enough to keep it from happening but we'll see. It wouldn't take much to save SS based on current projects (most of the adjustments would be unnoticed by most people -- the could raise the cap on contributions and people would pay like a few more dollars into SS each pay and they could raise the retirement age a small amount gradually over time with exceptions for people who physically cannot work and the program would be funded for another 80 years). But Republicans are very stupid about this so who knows.

And....people believe him?

They'll poison pill it the way they did with the last tax cuts. Major cuts to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid that won't go into effect until 2029 or so, and greater restrictions on eligibility and lower benefits not presently benefitting now (i.e., raise the age for folks born after 1970 to get it). That's how they'll pay for their tax cuts now.

Sure, then they can blame Trump's successor for what happened on Trump's watch. And they think we are too stupid to notice.

sadly...the rubes are too stupid to notice.

They're unsustainable.

I wish they'd cut SS and let me invest it. I'd make so much more ROI. SS makes my retirement worse.

These programs are already bare bones for the past 30 years. The age keeps increasing due to increased life span, and the benefits keep declining, and the cost of living adjustments are rarely adjusted. At least Trump pledged to make Social Security benefits tax exempt which would be a huge help for seniors. It never made any sense to me how seniors are expected to pay taxes twice- once for the benefit and second after they receive the benefit which isnt even a benefit. It's a tax refund that one is paying taxes on.

sounds good, i'd rather cash out and keep my own money to invest as i please

Healthcare is also a huge problem. Americans pay four times for healthcare: Medicare taxes, Medicaid with federal and state taxes, and for their own health insurance. Rising healthcare costs are considered a significant factor contributing to stagnant wages, low retirement planning among younger generations, and increased death.

Not for nothing but Trump is on to something when he says illegal immigration decimates our healthcare system.

The Republican base is poor and survives off "entitlement programs" and its why Republicans hated Obamacare so much because they knew they would not be able to undo it without it being political suicide. Mitch McConnell was screamed at by Kentucky natives early on in the Trump administration for even talking about cutting Obamacare. If they can't cut that, I doubt they could permanently undo Social Security and Medicare when some of their states are 50-60% SSI and Medicaid recipients.

Illegal immigrants are not really using our healthcare system, no matter how much the Gop is scaring you into believing that.

The solution for healthcare is universal. It would solve all of the problems people complain about. Obama implemented the Heritage Foundation solution for healthcare thinking he would get bi-partisan support. he should have just gone for Unviersal and called it a day.

Sure! Bet you would be below average returns. Wall Street would eat you alive.

They won't cut social security or Medicare, either. Whatever blather they are saying.

A lot, if not a majority. of MAGAS have ACA and need to keep it. Republican who want to keep their cushy jobs will not mess with SS, SSI. Medicare, and Medicaid.

Cut SS for everyone born after 1985. Cut each of those Americans a check for $10k to give them back part of what they’ve paid in. Then let them go invest their money instead of taking if 6.2% tax from our checks.

If all you did was dump it into a life cycle fund you'd be far wealthier and have a better retirement than SS. Or all you gotta do is buy the s and p 500 and set it and forget it.

It's not about stock picking, dumbass.

No. You should get every penny you gave us in with interest! Employer pays half of FICA. Congress effed SS up from the get go by putting FICA in general funds. It should always have had a separate fund and one that could only be used by SS.
