Republicans in congress say big cuts coming to Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare.

Rep. Rich McCormick (R-Ga.) said Tuesday that lawmakers will ultimately face tough choices on spending in next year’s unified GOP government, suggesting cuts may be coming to social welfare programs

We’re going to have to have some hard decisions. We got to bring the Democrats in to talk about Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare. There’s hundreds of billions of dollars to be saved, and we know how to do it, we just have to have the stomach to actually take those challenges on,” McCormick told Fox Business Network’s Maria Bartiromo

This will be fun to watch because at the same time congressional republicans are cutting these benefits they will be giving tax breaks the rich. You know they will also go after the VA and veterans’ disability.

It was the plan all along. Notice that Trump is stacking his administration with billionaires. And now they will cut social security and Medicare to help themselves to tax cuts. Party of the working class folks!

Yeah, Republicans have been talking about getting rid of the ACA for years. But when they have a majority, they don't.

They won't cut social security or Medicare, either. Whatever blather they are saying.

Do it! I am a democrat and say if the GOP is really focused on bringing down the federal debt and spending we have to get rid of social services. It doesn’t affect me at all. And since the majority of Americans voted for this I guess this is what they wanted.

They'll poison pill it the way they did with the last tax cuts. Major cuts to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid that won't go into effect until 2029 or so, and greater restrictions on eligibility and lower benefits not presently benefitting now (i.e., raise the age for folks born after 1970 to get it). That's how they'll pay for their tax cuts now.

All those Trump supporters who are expecting medicare and social security in the future.. gosh. It's almost like they weren't listening to what Trump and Rs were saying about all of this and only heard "build a wall", and voted R.

It's what the MAGAs on SS, SSDI, and Veterans benefits apparently wanted them to do when they voted for them.

You can type whatever you like but no, that's not what voters want.

Trump has publicly vowed he won't cut SS or Medicare and even got this put into the party platform at the 2024 convention (that they won't cut the programs) so if they try to cut them they are handing both Democrats and Republicans in purple districts who face tough re-election fights in 2026 a huge weapon.

Though he has proposed exempting SS payments from taxes which is a dumb plan that would help bankrupt the program. I'm hoping that could be explained to voters well enough to keep it from happening but we'll see. It wouldn't take much to save SS based on current projects (most of the adjustments would be unnoticed by most people -- the could raise the cap on contributions and people would pay like a few more dollars into SS each pay and they could raise the retirement age a small amount gradually over time with exceptions for people who physically cannot work and the program would be funded for another 80 years). But Republicans are very stupid about this so who knows.

Well, when interviewed, a strong majority apparently preferred the policies promoted by the Harris’ platform, they just did realize they were in platform. Guess THE TRANS ARE COMING FOR YOUR GIRLS and THE BORDER IS OVERRUN BY HORDES OR BARBARIANS worked in blinding them. And they will never see it, when they get screwed, it will be the immigrants’ fault, the rich coastal liberal elites, Nancy Pelosi’s fault, her emails and so on.

Yes it is.
Trump and the GOP won. The GOP had cutting social security and Medicare in its budget this year. Trump’s “economic plans” will gut the programs and indirectly end them. Plus it’s an explicit part of project 2025.

So in fact, this is precisely what the voters voted for.

Yep. And project 2025 was clear about cutting veterans benefits too.
