Can we drop the pretense about Trump and his tariffs now? |
The latest idiocy. 100% tariffs on imported chips plus elimination of CHIPS act incentives. Great way to sink US hardware industry.

Trump announced 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico coming on Saturday.
Our two largest trading partners. It’s not going to reduce inflation. |
No but everyone needs to chill. I'm not sure freaking out solves much. What are you going to do about this? Seriously, what can you do?
I also believe Trump will not help the economy but I don't think anyone knows (not even him) then extent of impact his term will leave us. And that's really the key here - the extent. No admin is perfect. Anyone who suggests any President was 100% lifting up our economy is not analyzing hard enough. For sure there were some who helped grow the economy and some who sank it. But it's all relative. Globally you have to consider what is going on at the time as well. I think it's a very complex subject and while I agree his policies are more short sighted than fundamentally solid, nobody can read the future. That guy is the luckiest man ever. He won this damn election and it's not even the first time! He got convicted and won't serve time. He got to appoint 3 SCOTUS judges like WTF who gets that? He just gets away with things, benefits from a lot of things that stem from luck - he came after Obama, he is coming in after Biden - he just gets away with murder. So he could very well not end up hurting us as badly as you think he will. I'm not saying it'll be a joyride economically but you really have to give it more than a wk. he also says a lot of shit. Who the hell knows what he will do whenever. You really chaps to take everything with a grain of salt as they say. Moreover, it's a big too late to complain now that he's in. I'm not a fan I did not vote for him but I just think pages of how he is the apocalypse is tiring. If he is there's still nothing we can do except budget and pack that go bag lol! |
An economy can recover. I’m not sure that the country will recover otherwise. |
And here I thought Trump supported bringing manufacturing jobs back to the US. |
Yes, we actually know what his actions will do to the economic and social health of the US. And none of it is good, unless you are our enemies. |
Of course the country will recover. I wish people would have faith in ourselves. Stop getting so riled up by him. He's an orange headed buffoon. Focus on the same number of good people as there are his allies. That is how you fight him - know that he too will pass and don't give him so much power. If Econ is bad, you spend less. You get through this time - it's life. Armageddon is not yet upon us ![]() |
Our economy is the strongest, by far, in the world. We live in a degree of luxury that people vote on the basis of who is in a place where people change their clothes. On Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, we are at the tippy top. So yeah, I’m angry that Trump is going to destroy our economy and put millions out of work. |
If Trump goes ahead with this, Canada of course will impose retaliatory tariffs. And they seem inclined to target red states. There's a lot they can do. Potash alone, which is used in fertilizer, can really hurt American farmers. I would expect a massive spike in food prices going forward. Plus things like aluminum will hurt manufacturing. There's broad support in Canada for hitting Trump back hard if he chooses a trade war with Canada. There's no winners here. Everyone loses. |
Canada is for sure planning to slap on massive retaliatory tariffs. Not sure about Mexico but wouldn’t be surprised if they do the same. |
Of course it will hurt us. Duh! The question is how it hurts us and that's an important one and the one you focus on. Your perspective is so incomplete. And again there is nothing anyone can do. So you can waste your energy and grope and be stupidly upset or you can try to figure out how best to help yourself, calm down and see how things develop, where you can make it better, do so. It's all any of us can do but we WILL recover. The US elected this guy. He's a pill but it's what we have to take. |
