So trump is raising prices on Americans to help out some foreign criminal?

Apparently. And here I thought America First means that we aren’t telling other countries what to do?

Half way through the one month negotiation period, Trump unilaterally imposes a 35% tariff on Canada. And that is after Canada had caved on each negotiation point.

Things are about to get very ugly for American consumers if Trump doesn't TACO.

We all know there isn't a grand plan. Trump isn't playing multi-dimensional chess. He's just making it up as he goes along for attention. None of the negotiators (US or international) can operate in this environment. And aside, Trump won't honor any of the "deals" any way.

"Vietnam’s leadership was caught off guard by US President Donald Trump’s announcement last week that it agreed to a 20% tariff, and the Southeast Asian nation is still seeking to lower the rate, according to people familiar with the matter.

Straight after last Wednesday’s call with Trump, Vietnam’s party chief To Lam told his negotiating team to keep working to bring the tariff rate down, the people said, asking not to be identified as the talks are confidential. The 20% figure came as a surprise as Vietnam believed it had secured a more favorable tariff range, the people said."

Not a Trump fan, but the inflation rate seems comparable to most monthly values since 2024, which have been slightly higher than the Fed’s 2% target. To me the story is how little effect tariffs seem to be having on inflation to date.

It's up from 2.4% in May. And most of the big tariffs are still in Trumpian limbo.

FYI - "Slightly higher" would be 2.05% or 2.1% in Fedspeak.

Most of the tariffs have not kicked in yet or were rolled back. Also, because of the uncertainty, some importers have not passed the cost of the current tariffs along to the consumers because they anticipate that Trump will change his mind. However, they cannot keep doing that forever. Eventually importers will have to include the tariffs in their pricing.

Its not the importers, it is the retailers.

Rep. Greg Murphy admits tariffs are hurting small businesses in his district, but says "this is parenting in a way. We have to take some really tough medicine."

They've been putting tariffs on Cuban sugar for decades, to help out the companies in the Everglades.

Inflation has come in below expectations every month, not what I would expect when people are saying tariffs will cause lots of inflation.

What??

From NYT:

Inflation accelerated in June as President Trump’s tariffs started to leave a bigger imprint on the economy, keeping the Federal Reserve on track to hold interest rates steady when policymakers next meet this month.

The Consumer Price Index rose 2.7 percent from a year earlier, the swiftest pace since February, data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics showed on Tuesday. That is slightly higher than expected and up from an annual pace of 2.4 percent in May.

“Core” inflation, which strips out volatile food and energy prices and is seen as a reliable gauge for underlying price pressures, also shifted higher. Those prices were up 2.9 percent from the same time last year.

Over the course of the month, prices rose 0.3 percent, a notable pickup from a 0.1 percent increase in May. Core prices rose 0.2 percent.
The June data still reflects only the initial impact of Mr. Trump’s global trade war. Prices of products most exposed to tariffs, like household furnishings, jumped 1 percent, significantly higher than the 0.3 rise last month. Prices for appliances, specifically, rose 1.9 percent, up from 0.8 percent. The apparel index increased 0.4 percent, snapping multiple months of declining prices.

tariffs have not really kicked in yet and we are already seeing upticks. What are you even talking about?

We were told there would be supply shortages in May, and surging prices at the same time. Remember the empty ports in April? I don’t doubt those could come, but n evidence s far. The NYT headline is hyperbolic and not supported by the data.
