True conservatives aren't pro trump.

They are now when the other option is a socialist who's trying to take away my private health insurance.

Lol. Is that what FOX has told you? Yet you’re fine with taking away Grandma’s Medicare? I guess you don’t expect to live long enough to need it?

For the sake of your argument, having a public option won’t take away your option to purchase private platinum level plans for yourself, or to pay out of pocket for providers and services that aren’t covered by a plan.

No kamala's own mouth thats where I heard it.

Dems have their head in the sand. Kamala literally said she wanted to get rid of private health insurance for universal healthcare. I will vote accordingly. Politicians have no places in taking away my own private healthcare that I pay good money for.

Some people like dictatorship. There were people getting rich under many dictators. PP probably thinks no one will come after him.

Anonymous wrote:A lot of the posts here remind me of arguments I used to have with my ex. He considered himself to be a logical person and since he felt he came to his position logically, it was only logical that if I disagreed it was because I was being illogical and emotional. The idea that a complex issue might have some gray areas which could mean that logic led us both to different but equally valid conclusions, or that he might even, occasionally, actually be wrong was inconceivable to him, because he smugly rested on the superiority of his logic to whatever alternative led me to an inferior conclusion that disagreed with his.

Something I’ve seen repeatedly from Democrats, both on this thread and in everyday interactions is the attitude that because they are good people who oppose racism, sexism, homophobia, etc., anyone who disagrees with them must therefore be an evil person who is racist, sexist, homophobic, etc. Unless of course, the person disagreeing with the Democratic party line belongs to a subgroup the Democrats are invested in defending, in which case the individual is considered merely stupid, but not evil.

This automatic polarization overlooks the complexity of both issues and individuals. Both parties support a wide variety of issues which may encompass issues that individual voters may disagree with. Look at the controversy over Israel’s handling of Gaza. Saying that all Democrats want the genocide of Palestinians because Biden supported Israel after the October attack is as ridiculous as saying that all Democrats are anti-semitic neo-nazis because college students were protesting the subsequent Israeli actions that were having devastating effects on Palestinian civilians. Both sides are right that the loss of innocent lives is an outrageous tragedy, but most Democrats are probably not factoring the Gaza situation into their votes at all.

Some Republicans may be pro-life, pro-gun, pro-charter schools, anti-environment, anti-Obamacare, anti-union, . . . , even anti-constitution - but not all. Virtually all Republicans will disagree with some part of the Republican platform and prefer the Democratic position on some issue(s), opening up the possibility for a potential ally on the specific issue(s) and even the potential to swing the vote, IF you’re not so determined to chase them away because of their inherent evil evident in their disagreement with you.

Sure, given the millions of individuals who vote Republican, like any large group, some are bound to be bad actors, and the same holds true for those who vote Democrat. However, the bulk of voters on both sides sincerely want good things for both Americans as individuals and for the country as a whole, but they may disagree on what individual goals represent the greater good and how best to achieve them. If we all give the other side the benefit of the doubt that we’re all working towards the common good, then maybe we can find enough common ground to make some progress, even while we agree to disagree on the rest.

I’m a conservative who has lived in Rockville for over 25 years. When I first voted in the area and discovered that you had to publicly identify your party affiliation, I switched my registration to Independent, because I didn’t think it was anyone’s business who I was voting for and because I realized a Republican affiliation was liable to create unnecessary tension with the neighbors.

Later, when my eldest was attending TPMS (in the McCain/Romney era), I was volunteering at the school and the other moms started chatting about politics. They were clearly liberals and I just smiled and held my tongue, feeling it was neither the time nor place to get into a political debate. I still remember one of these liberal paragons of virtue asserting that there was no way she’d ever let her child associate with someone whose family voted Republican. My middle schooler was only starting to become aware of politics, and was just beginning to form her own opinions on the issues, which would eventually align more closely with those other moms’ position than my own. She certainly had no control over my opinions. Nonetheless, the liberals who claim to be the tolerant and compassionate ones would have deliberately taught their kids to ostracize a classmate based on something beyond their control, and felt virtuous for doing so.

Ironically, although I consider Trump and the current Republican party to be antithetical to conservatism and more of a personality cult than a valid party, I switched my party affiliation to Republican so that I could support Hogan in the primary and vote against Trump. I want the Republicans to return to conservative values, and registering Republican allowed me to vote against the MAGA madness. After years of avoiding identification with the more moderate Republican party that I actually supported in calmer times, in this tension-filled era, I felt that the need to oppose the MAGA movement at every opportunity was worth the risk of becoming a social pariah. While I once wouldn’t risk the milder consequences of being linked to the party I agreed with, I now risk more to be linked to the same party now that I oppose it.

I don’t know why you support Trump. As I’m sure you’ve gathered, I disagree with your choice, but I completely support your right to support him in every way you choose. While a yard sign should be fine, I dear that it will lead, at the very least, to social consequences, and vandalism or other hostile acts wouldn’t surprise me either, although you might find some unexpected allies. I would recommend that if you want to use your freedom of speech to support him you post here on DCUM, write letters to the editor, contribute to or volunteer on his campaign, etc. Just keep in mind that you’ll probably have your neighbors for longer than the four years of a presidential administration. I don’t know if the influence your yard sign could have on the election will be worth antagonizing your neighbors in the long run, only you can make that judgement for yourself.

Meanwhile, as a conservative who can disagree with Trump and the current Republican party without demonizing Republican voters, if you’re interested in having a rational discussion on why I feel Trump (and the current Republican party) have abandoned and now threaten the conservative values the party has always represented, I would be happy to share with you why I feel the only choice left for conservatives is to vote Democrat.

This is a good post thank you
Although demonizing the party of Putin and Christian nationalism and nazism and pedo lovers see Mike Huckabee and Trumps pardon of a pedo and love of the Duggars kind of makes it easy to demonize repukes .

However the Republican Party is no longer they are unamerican if they install king trump dictator we never vote again that’s the plan and it’s horrific and it is unamerican to the core there is no Republican Party

Reminder: The border the U.S. shares with Mexico is 1,954 miles long. Donald Trump managed to add only 80 miles of border fencing and out of those, 33 miles were secondary reinforcement for existing fencing. Mexico didn't pay for it.

How — exactly— are “dems (sic) holding them back? Is this the sort of unsupported rot that convinces the MAGAts that they’re “so much smarter” than the rest of us?

NP. Because the Democratic party, by policy, does not want to solve problems that are more urgent in these communities. If they help them solve their problems, their dependence on the government goes away. And we can't have that, can we?
