anyone know about the "Virginia Valor Fathers Day Fiesta" or the "FPYC Fathers Day Tournament"

It sounds like they were confused or possibly tricked last year.

And they are charging rec kids money for this? That's just pathetic. Not fun for anyone.

Since those are the only teams confirmed as participating, that sounds sadly accurate. Not sure whether to feel sorrier for the poor rec teams or the LS teams. The tournament last year had a lot of scores like 14-0.

I feel sorry for any child or family that has to participate in the sham. Can you imagine being excited that your DC got selected for all stars to only have to be subjected to this miserable experience.

I'm curious, what was miserable for you? We are going again this year. We had a good experience last year. We were at their park (I forget the name- it was all grass fields?) and it was well organized and the games were on time all weekend. The people at the tent were nice and helpful and the staff was on top of things like collecting game cards and even cleaning up trash left on the sidelines as the games went on. Standings were updated quickly. My husband coached two teams so we basically camped out there all weekend

This reads like something someone who organized the tournament would make up. All the emphasis on how great the people running it were lol. I'm not saying its fake, it just sounds fake. What club were you from and what ages were your kids' teams? We are HYS and the most complaints were from the u10-u12s. Our u13s and up played FPYC.

Agree. We are LS and on vacation for this last year but three different families we ran into over the summer mentioned how crappy the tournament was. LS charges way too much for all stars to stick kids in this trashy tournament.

This team played in my son's age group (U12). Our team was crushed by them in the final game but it was no surprise to anyone as the PR kids were incredible and clearly a high level team that played together year round. It was honestly really sad. Whole families traveled all the way here from PR, they had rented big vans and they camped out at the fields all day (because where else would they go?). I am sure they were baffled by how bad the other teams were at this "elite" tournament. (Our all star teams practice together 2 or 3 times, kids show up and are still learning each other's names at the games!) These poor people must have spent a fortune on flights and hotels. Our coach said he complained to Valor about travel teams playing in a rec tournament but no one answered his questions.

All our SFL age teams play in FPYC, haven't heard if the younger teams will be stuck with Valor again. Not really sure why we were there in the first place.

PS- Can confirm (1) no free churros and (2) medals were absolutely FUGLY. We were laughing about how awful they were. "50 cent trinket from South of the Border" is spot on. Not sure if it's one guy in charge with really bad taste that no one wants to gainsay or a bunch of old guys with bad taste, but man. I would honestly be embarrassed to have that in my house. What were they thinking with this whole theme?

Really disappointed no one ever posted a
link to the sombrero medals

Jumping in here as an experienced sports coach and admin but very new to the soccer scene.
From the inside, the Valor Father Day Tourney is just referred to as "All-Stars" for the CYA and SYA players.
I coach my grandson's 9U team and its an expectation that we will "nominate" several players and we pare down from our 10-12 house league teams to 2-3 all-star teams.
For us, its just a fun, end-of-season event so soccer moms can chat, the kids can hang out and no one really seems to care who wins or loses. We are just taking it at face value and didn't even know that FPYC had a tourney until this thread.
The 2 times at 8U and 9U Fall (there is one in the fall too), it was fun, that's it. Met our expectations and no issue with the cost.

It really is amazing how all this has changed in he last 40 years. I was a 3-sport athlete, lifted in the summer and that was it. Trying to wrap my head around and figure out when to push, and when to hold back.

Just trying to keep it fun, win a few games and teach a few life lessons along the way

The fall all star tournament is run by Herndon.

Your coach complained about travel teams being in a rec tournament!?!? Let me guess… you’re a CYA team? I’m sick of hearing about loser coaches that can’t handle a loss with sportsmanship in these all star tournaments. Get this through your head CYA … travel teams do not waste time in our rec all stars. Stop filing meaningless complaints because you’re sore that a better team beat you.

I believe the travel team was from Puerto Rico not a CYA travel team.

The PR team was a rec team that traveled to the Valor tournament. CYA is the rec team (Valor is their travel team) that has a history of accusing teams of using travel players. Read carefully before you comment.

A rec team that traveled from Puerto Rico to Chantilly? How is that not by definition a travel team? You have to get on an airplane. Just curious.

Based on the tournament brackets, that poster was from Herndon Soccer. They played Puerto Rico in the last game and lost 0-5. (Puerto Rico did beat CYA 7-1 earlier in the tournament so they may have complained as well who knows).

If you travel from Herndon to Reston for a rec game (ie. Herndon vs GFR rec) does that make you a travel team? Stop being so stupid. Travel Teams = NCSL Travel, ECNL RL, ECNL, GA, etc.

Perhaps you should "read carefully before you comment" as you seem to be having a hard time following the plot.

If you fly on an airplane to a tournament, across an ocean, yes, that makes you a travel team.

Do teams from Puerto Rico play in those leagues? Just curious. I would expect that they have a completely different system.
