My boyfriend steals groceries

Anonymous
I did this exactly once and it was an accident -- I forgot to ring up something under the cart. I got to the car, realized my mistake, turned around, and paid for the item with apologies.

Because I'm not a sociopathic asswhipe.

He would likely say he's not getting any thrill but he is. It's the tiny, cumulative thrill of knowing he can get away with things, which confirms over and over that He Is Special. This is the kind of thinking that holds the rest of the world in contempt and considers other people dumb because they don't steal groceries. And he surely cheats, lies and steals in other aspects of life and work. He'll say it's all small stuff and harms no one at all, but the total lesson is: He thinks he's better than others, and rules don't apply to him, and rules are stupid anyway. Run, OP, run.

Yes, it’s a thrill but also it’s a good chunk of change if it’s 25% of his groceries every time. That adds up fairly quickly. Agree that OP should stay away from him for sure.

I’ve never stolen before they put those in place, but now I’m getting produce, and I sometimew I hit the banana button instead of finding the code on whatever I bought. Or I try to scan it a few times and I can’t get it to go through, so I just throw it back in the cart.

Duh.

Walking out with stolen goods is “easier” than scanning or the checkout line?!

Ok gaslighter. What other BS do you tell yourself every day.

“I never stolen before self checkout, it’s easy”
“I check everything out as $0.19 bananas, it’s easier ”
“I try the scan a few times, it doesn’t register, I just take it home anyways”

Easy peasy

lol

Seriously, there’s some real psychos here in self denial.

Call the worker and they’ll fix it.

You know that. Now do it. Every time. Like everyone else does.

Oh, the one poor dude who actually still works there.

Remember when there was a worker at every lane of the grocery store who did this for you?

And you’d wait in line

Why are you still here trying to argue and rationalize your theft of groceries?

Psycho.

It’s not been my lived experience that self checkout has made lines any shorter anywhere.

Now I have yet another reason to like Trader Joe’s and their trustworthy shoppers.

No psychos in the self checkouts.

Op, I think you got your consensus and gut check! Please tell us that you broke up with this loser/sociopath who probably evades taxes and is cheating on you since "all men do".

LOL what? No.

He is morally corrupt and I would break up with him. I broke up with someone who lied about his age to get the Covid vaccine ahead of everyone else.

That's a serious character flaw. He has bad morals. I would end a relationship over this.

I was at Harris Teeter recently. One of my items didn’t ring up correctly and a clerk came over and pulled up footage of my entire transaction. I would never steal regardless but seeing the video cemented how easily one could be caught. It’s not worth the risk. Getting caught would be humiliating even if the store didn’t prosecute.

Also, shoplifting raises the prices for everyone, which sucks. So don’t be that person.

Why would you think this is a "man" thing? It is a "thief" thing. You are dating a thief, and you are watching a thief -which makes you a thief, but also seriously impaired in judgement. Any chance you are dating a Trump relative? Maybe you should stop dating for awhile and get a grip.

If you ended up with this guy and it all goes downhill- and it of course will, and people ask "Were there any red flags that you passed off?" Uh, this would be it.
So, no, this isn't a thing.

Definitely does at Aldi and Harris Teeter.

Shoplifting is one of the crimes where women enjoy gender equality, but they still have a lot of catching up to do in other offenses.

I 'forget' to scan about $10 worth of stuff each time I use the self scan. If they force me to do their labor, I'm getting paid.
