CogAT scores are here!

If your kid is "in pool" how likely is it that they will be accepted into the AAP program?

130 CogAT. I wonder if we'll be in pool.

Do second grade teachers submit GBRS for each student in the class using a scale of 1 to 10 or something like that?
Does every child in the class get an opportunity to be considered by the committee irrespective of their nnat or cogat?
Can parents know somehow what their child's teacher rated them as?

All I know is our school presentation basically said they won’t refer anyone, don’t ask teachers what they think, and anyone who wants their child considered should self refer. It was not helpful.

Did anyone get their child’s Cogat score in the mail?

So far people have just said they came home in backpacks. I'm guessing some schools were not able to get them out before break (someone even said that their school didn't have them yet - so I don't know that all schools even have the scores.) Many of us have been able to get them in SISVue.

The way our AART explained it, it sounds like the only kids who will get the GBRS (or now, HOPE) filled out for them and packets sent to the committee are the ones in the pool (either automatically selected for the pool or parent referred into the pool).

You can ask your school for the teacher's rating form after the school has sent the packets in (in March, I think.)

The HOPE evaluation is conducted for children who were selected by the universal screener (in pool) and whose parents referred.

You can request the packet prepared by the AART but it is not automatically provided.

My child's teacher just had a baby and will be on maternity leave until March. Who is going to fill out the HOPE form for these kids?

Yes, on 12/18. Some people reported here getting them last week. I assume the digital copy of the one-page report will also be in SIS when it comes back up.

Kids who were parent referred or kids who were in-pool by the "universal screener referral" get a packet put together. No one else does. At least at our school all kids will be considered for level III or level II in May, and anyone with over a 90% on iReady or a pass advanced on the SOL will be offered advanced math the next year (the advanced math offering is new this year).

Does your school have a dedicated AART? Our school does it by committee, and I think not only the 2nd grade teacher but the 1st grade teacher and the AART contribute to the packet.

My DD's scores: NNAT 136, COGAT Verbal 133, Quantitative 139, Nonverbal 125, Composite (VQN) 139. We did not get any notifications regarding being in-pool. I did parent referral but felt that work samples were not very strong. We are in a pretty competitive pyramid. I am prepared for either outcome but was curious if someone with experience had any feedback on these scores.

Those are similar to DS scores a few years ago (137/139). He got in with 3C1F GBRS. We are in a Vienna elementary school (so fairly high SES).

Thank you! We are in Stenwood so hopefully pretty similar parameters.

Check out page 38 and 39 here: https://go.boarddocs.com/vsba/fairfax/Board.nsf/files/BPLQKV69B096/$file/FCPS%20final%20report%2005.05.20.pdf

The mean scores shown there for accepted students are so far below what's regularly reported here as to be totally silly. DCUM is Lake Woebegone, where "all the children are above average."

That is interesting! I also have hard time believing the report. Chatter in the neighborhood makes me think that the requirements for admission are incredibly high, though nobody is volunteering to share their scores. I completely understand, just don't really know how to interpret the scores. One parent told me that "everyone is in 99th percentile here." I suppose it could be true since the percentiles are calculated on the national level. Had a meeting with DD's classroom and AAP teachers and still completely in the dark about how she really is doing. They all gave very neutral and noncommittal answers. I do think my child is smart but I don't really have a point of reference, she is my oldest

My kid is 148 COGAT, but NNAT is only 123. Not sure if she would be in the pool.
