CogAT scores are here!

Came home in my kid’s backpack.

Help me understand how a 135 is in the 99 percentile.

My kid’s scores:
NNAT 144
CogAT 135

We didn’t prep, but I wish we had. I’m disappointed.

Yep, came in our parent folder.

You're disappointed that your child is in the 99th percentile?

I’m disappointed in the 135 part.

My other kid was in the 130s and he didn’t get in to AAP.

How is it not the 99th percentile? Most kids don’t do test prep beyond what the teacher gives in school. Most kids nationwide are in mediocre at best public schools. Now if you’re in a particularly competitive school/pyramid where there are a lot of kids getting a 135+, maybe your kid doesn’t look quite as good. But if this decision cycle is anything like in past years, the teacher recommendations/GBRS/HOPE scores/whatever they’re calling it these days will reign supreme anyway.

Thing about the NoVA area, it may be top 99% in the country, but may only be top 94% in NoVA.

It might not be a shoo-in/automatically in pool score depending on your school but it’s certainly VERY close and a good teacher form and work samples can more than make up for it.

And besides, even if it’s “only” top 6%, isn’t the top 10% in pool at every school?

Wow! Why would you be not happy with the 99th percentile? Please don’t let your child know that. Too many kids out here thinking they need to be perfect.

Nothing came home today and nothing posted on SIS. Why aren't these notifications more standardized across the county?

Do you not understand how scaled scoring works?

That sucks OP, your child is destined for gen Ed. Maybe he can get in on appeal. George Mason does an affordable WISC.

No. I don’t understand. My score was only 123.
