Spending money to hire Navarro and manage perception instead of focusing on improving academics?

You're surprised, how exactly?

The equity crusade is just about optics, not outcomes, so not surprised at all.

Which is a shame, because it tanks the entire subject of equity, which has some merit to it, when discussed and implemented with common sense, fairness and sanity.

The problem is it isn't what the school or county can do. These problems stem from a child's home life. No amount of money or good intentions will address this. The only thing that has worked in reducing the gap is to dumb down opportunities for high-achievers to make it appear like progress is being made. Examples of this include the honors for all classes which don't really help anyone.

I think they’re more obsessed with MCPS succeeding, which she seems to be in the way of more often than not.

It's hard to guess their reasons. I don't feel she's helping, but neither did the last few supers, really. In fact, most these days are focused on everything but education.

+1. They pick the dumbest things to be coy about. The contract is a public record that’s not exempt from disclosure under the personnel records exception in the MPIA. MCPS rightly gets beaten up about not being transparent. They seem to think that’s an unfair criticism but then they get easy stuff like this wrong.

Did you submit an MPIA request for the information you're seeking?

It's more than that. Equity is also about harming people at the top so they perform worse and become more equal with the bottom.

Yes, but they do that to improve the optics of their theories and promised outcomes.

Not yet but the point is that I shouldn’t have to.

No. It's more than that. Equity is about brining down the top so that everything looks more ev...ah...you're right. It IS just about optics.

... Maybe because she doesn't know what she's doing, she fumbles the little things, and it was way too soon for her to be appointed Superintendent. She only moved up because she knows the right things to say, not because she is genuine. This is coming from a student who knew her when she led Ridgeview, and I'm a person of color too. Our "gripes" are objective.
