Haven't read the whole thread. Has anyone posted with experience of going to Banneker? |
Wrong. |
From BASIS? No - because nobody does that. |
This is completely false. There have been two total in the past decade, both of which were within the past few years. |
Yup. That would be crazy! |
Wrong, there have been others. Ask around at Walls. |
You are misinformed. |
There haven’t. You are wrong- perhaps you are thinking of teachers leaving Deal? Even then it’s three teachers and two have been at Walls for almost a decade now. |
Good grief, BASIS burns through teachers like crazy, particularly capable STEM middle school instructors. DCPS pays better and doesn't demand as much from teachers in the highest-performing programs. Of course the odd teacher bails from BASIS to DCPS. What else can inveterate BASIS boosters deny? I've lost track. |
Found the WTA rep. |
Teacher retention is a challenge throughout DC and the nation. The problem with DCPS is that bad teachers stay since it almost impossible to fire them. That is not an issue at BASIS. Some of the teachers who leave BASIS did not have their contracts renewed. Basis doesn't have any more issues retaining teachers than any other DC charter. |
Dumb. I can think of a number of teachers at BASIS that came from DCPS schools. I can also think of one who left BASIS for a private school and then returned to BASIS. Generally, the kids at BASIS are smart and pretty well-behaved. I'm not really interested in teaching below-grade level kids and constantly breaking up fights. |
| BASIS middle school teachers who leave tend to head to suburban schools offering attractive pay, GT/magnet programs, strong teacher training/support and facilities. Claim what you like but BASIS DC doesn’t offer any of that. |
Wrong. |
| Why are we talking about teachers? I thought the thread is about students who leave BASIS for Banneker?? |
