He never drinks and for some reason decided to keep up with his coworkers so after dinner they went to the bar next door until it closed at 2am. He could hardly walk so he go in the back seat of his car and slept it off. I was absolutely panicked. His phone was dead. I had a 3yo and was pregnant with our second. This was pre-uber days though so idk if this would be likely to happen now that it's so easy to get a ride home on demand.

As an FYI to others - you can get a DUI in the back seat of a car too. Not a good option.

That seems unfair. How do you get a DUI when you aren't operating the vehicle.

Being inside the car with thr keys is considered operating it, because you could make the car move. Same reason driving while drunk is a crime even if your car isn't currently violating any traffic laws.

They'd rather a woman sleep it off outside at a gas station? Cops are dumb af.

I needed someone to talk me off a cliff and given the time difference, DCUMers responded right away. I got some really, really kind and empathetic responses that I read several times. So yes, I can see OP coming here for advice that you don't want to necessarily ask friends and family about.

We know, you talk about it all the time.

LOL, it's true! We ALL know who this lady is and literally ALL the details of her husband's affair and their reconciliation.

Let's start a poll!!

1. OP was a troll, just wanted to see what people replied
2. OP's husband did something that she is too embarrassed to talk about
3. He's in the hospital/passed away (I hope this isn't true)

Cops aren't the dumbass irresponsible drunkards*.
They didn't care that you created a dilemma for yourself, and they'll block the option that gets them a bigger paycheck.

*Except when they are, of course.

Totally depends on the state, but in Maryland, if you're asleep in the back seat, and the car is turned off, and legally parked, it will likely not result in a conviction at trial. The test is much more complicated than "inside with the keys"

Now, I'm sure a lot of people take pleas in those circumstances so they can keep a recommendation for a PBJ.

I'll take option 2 for 500, please.

My vote is for number 2 as well.

I have a friend in VA who was arrested for drunk driving for sleeping in their car at a Metro station parking lot. It was winter and they had the car on.

Local prosecutor was going to charge them and my friend took a plea deal. Really derailed their life, as they lost their job and home was foreclosed. This was in 2008-2009 period.

You would think they would reward people for making the right and safe decision to sleep it off.

this

I think she found out he was doing something that made her very angry and now she's embarrassed to update us.

Speculating like this isn't helpful to her (if she's even still reading this, which I doubt) and it also is just...empty. We can do "I think this happened" all day long and fill pages with it but it's meaningless. I'll keep checking for any real updates the OP provides but if we start down the purely fictional "What ifhe was X?!" rabbit hole, this thread's a goner.

He was struck by lightening after drinking poisoned algae water and flattened by a boulder. That’s why they can’t find him.

No it was a large branch that hit him and others.

It was 1. Jeff confirmed it in a write up on the home page.

Super embarrassing more than anything else, but my husband was (surprisingly) not bothered by it at all.

Wow. Surprising to me that this didn’t bother your dh.
