We need a competent leader who'll hire the best candidates to do critical jobs like running this country's transportation infrastructure, not have a leader in office who throws a bone to diversity candidates who have no idea what they're doing.

Individual travelers' experience is anecdotes, not data. But one thing that DOES show up in the actual data is that US air travel is now at the highest and busiest it has ever been, more than pre-pandemic levels. Airlines are still struggling to catch up after the losses they incurred during the pandemic, but they are fast getting there.

4) Chair of the US Maritime Commission

5) Director of the US Maritime Commission.

Had Biden been smart, he would have begged her to stay, rather then hire an incompetent ex-mayor whose sole experience was as a failed mayor of a small midwestern town. Of course he has failed.

I can’t read this whole big dumb thread but there are at least two major issues that have nothing to do with Biden or Pete:
1) airlines used to her all their pilots retrained by the USAF. Now the USAF uses drones so they’ve lost their pipeline and are super slow to realize that. Pilots tot old and retired. There is a major shortage.
2) with covid a bunch of older folks retired plus airlines deferred new purchases and maintenance for a couple of years. They are all behind now. The air traffic controllers are tragically understaffed.
Oh and three
3) Boeing sucks. All those airlines had to remove Boeing from their rosters at various points which caused major problems.

I remember when Biden promised an infrastructure bill- that had been promised but never accomplished for decades

Okay, then she likely was available and may have listened had Biden gone to her and asked her to take up the job.

But the point isn’t whether Chao would come back if Trump was re-elected. The point is the difference in general hiring practices. Trump searched and found a highly educated, highly qualified candidate with decades of high-level federal management experience generally within the subject field, including in high level positions within the same department she was tasked with leading, while Biden just chose some guy with very little relevant experience who happened to have run against him in the primary and checked a few boxes that made Biden look good. The point is not whether Trump will come in and immediately rehire Chao, it’s that I trust that Trump will find someone who at the very least meets the bare minimum qualifications for the job.

And not just at Transportation. There was that clip of one of Biden’s top economic advisors making it clear he had no idea what inflation even was, and then you look at the three individuals Trump had in that position. Biden’s hire had a masters degree from mediocre public universities and minors academic qualifications, while all three of Trump’s appointees had PHDs from Ivy League universities and decades of practical experience.

In short, Biden simply did not find qualified advisors. Trump did.

Okay, so:

1) What did Biden/Pete do to help fix this? Did they put money into better pilot training programs? Work with airlines to ramp up programs to connect pilots leaving the USAF with hiring airlines? Require drone pilots in the USAF to be fully licensed pilots?

2) See above. Just because Biden and Pete can’t just snap their fingers and make pilots out of thin air, but they could have done literally anything to help with this crisis. They did not. Now people are rightfully angry at them.
