Meghan Markle Pink Short Suit at Lakers Game

I agree but nothing about this look says cool and effortless. I like her out and about at the Sunday farmer's market look. She does California casual well. But that's not what this is. This look takes as much effort as anything else would. It's the heels that push it over the top. With more casual shoes she wouldn't like she was trying so hard.

The color is beautiful on her but I don’t like the suit on her or the model. It’s just not my favorite. I don’t think it’s crazy for a lakers game though?

Has someone already pointed out that it’s almost the same suit that Julia Roberts wore at the end of Pretty Woman? I think Megan Markle had the fit just right. I love it on both.

Don't hate me. I don't think Meghan has returned to her pre-baby body so she compensates with the oversized clothes.

The suit is meh, but she always manages to look radiant and happy. I actually think they should dial down the affectionate glances and touches in public- Winter comes for every relationship and the contrast will be stark.

It's a relaxed fit. She's not a flight attendant.

When you have stick thin legs, you don’t wear baggy, boxy shorts. It’s not flattering.

She could have paired the tee and baggy blazer with jeans or pants and looked a million times better.

When you have thin legs you can wear whatever you want.

Isn't she in her 40's? It is an age appropriate look. Pink is appropriate for spring time.

I still have an issue with the extremely high heels she is wearing in a sports venue.

That’s a very odd comment about her relationship.

I think it looks better on her than on the model. I wouldn't wear linen to a basketball game specifically because of the wrinkling from sitting down, but it's not like this was a public appearance for them in a real sense -- they went to watch a sporting event as private citizens and there are some pap photos of it. It should be evaluated as a streetwear outfit. And I think on that measure, it looks good -- casual but polished, great color for her, she looks comfortable but it's also kind of fun. I think her legs look amazing and I like how she pushed the sleeves up and also the way she styled it with jewelry. She looks cool to me, like someone I'd want to be friends with.

I think it stems from having had to dress so formally for so much of his youth -- it always looks off. I think his jacket looks stuffy and his t-shirt is too white and starched looking. It looks like he's trying when this is a setting where he should look very relaxed and comfortable. William is the same -- he always looks like a stuffed shirt even when Kate dresses him down for family photos and events.

She grew up in LA and in film industry, he grew up in London in royal industry so both should know how to dress for the occasion and they have enough resources, helpers and stylists to help them.

Harry is also always wrinkled, in down at the heel shoes, and he isn’t as fit as William. Whatever the critique, William and Kate know their roles and their outfits always look great. Things are ironed. Extensions are managed. Shoes aren’t a mess. Bronzer isn’t applied with a paint roller. Etc.

This one is not true. Kate's makeup is, and always has been atrocious. Her blush is frequently very garish and the dated ring of harsh black eyeliner that she hasn't changed in 20+ years does her NO favors. Meghan does much better on keeping it fresh and tasteful on the makeup front. Kate is pure Estee Lauder counter circa 1996.

Not exactly. Plenty of people have stick legs with thick midsections. This is not an easy shape to dress. You can wear whatever you want when you have a proportional shape or are thin all over.

I also just think comparing the two couples is silly. They lead very different lives, in different countries, and different resources.

Kate and William always look extremely polished because they are making public appearances on behalf of the royal family multiple times a week. They are extremely conservative in their clothes and appearance as they are representatives of the family and William is a future king. They look very pulled together, but it's an extremely controlled effort. Even their kids look carefully smoothed and ironed in public, and you can tell that Kate stresses over this, as she often fusses over them at public events. Etiquette and being proper are of primary importance. Kate sometimes does want to look fashionable, too, but it's this extremely restrictive type of fashionable -- it's like the gentlest update possible on what QEII wore at the same age.

Meghan is American, she's not married to a future king, she's a former actress. She seems to enjoy playing with fashion a bit more and doesn't mind having a miss here and there if it affords her a chance to try out a trend. She like color and making a statement but also obviously values comfort. There's definitely a strong California vibe to a lot of her clothes, which makes sense since that's where she's from. I don't think you have to like everything she wears (I don't) but I do appreciate that she has a bit of fun with it. And since she and Harry no longer work for the family, are much more minimal in their public appearances, and when they do go out in public it tends to be casual and not "official" in any way, I think you have to evaluate her in a different way.

There's just no point in comparing them to each other. They are different people doing very different jobs in very different settings. You might prefer one style over another, but that's a personal preference and not definitive.

PP you're responding to and I agree completely.

If you think the designer expected women to push their oversize sleeves into large sloppy rolls of fabric past their elbows and wear light-colored linen while hunched up in an arena seat at an indoor evening game, I'm gonna question that thinking along with Meghan's.

DP. Pretty sure the designer meant this outfit to be "elevated casual", so Meghan got it right. Photography is the only thing she didn't take into consideration.

And pushed sleeves are on trend.
I know someone out there is rolling your eyes but that's what's making it look cool and relaxed.

I push up my sleeves almost all the time.

Yes, this is the look. Reminds me of this iconic outfit on Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman (I have every outfit in that movie imprinted on my long term memory like my multiplication tables):

I loved the color of that suit because I'm also a redhead and that shade of color is ultra-flattering on redheads. Obviously Meghan's version is a trendier color and the fit is more modern -- shorter shorts and boxier jacket, with a tank instead of a blouse. But same vibe and I love it.

My mom wore stuff just like this back in the mid to late 90s. Lol
It screams Chicos!

Omg! Yes! Chicos! Brings back so many memories of my mom trying on clothes in the dressing room. Thanks for the laugh…

A big nope.
