If you care what others think Michigan.

If you want to make the best decision UMD .

Corrected..
"If you care what others think, want a great college town, and don't want to run the risk of getting mugged, Michigan.

If you want to make the best decision, and don't mind a shitty environment, UMD."

^^ Ann Arbor violent crime rate is 3 times CP ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

horrendous dark and cold school year 26 percent of Michigan students consider suicide.

In case people don't want to click the link:

Violent crime:
CP - 43
AA - 410 -- almost 10x CP

Property crime:
CP - 579
AA - 2070

Ann Arborโ€™s population is about 4x that of CP. And Ann Arbor is a city in its own right, not just an area around a college campus. On a per capita basis, it would seem that property crime is about even.

Since the state, weather and crime/homlessness, lack of wealth is so horrible Ann Arbor needs a hype video.

Ann Arbor violent crime per 1000 residents is 3 times higher than happier CP.

It was actually sketchy is some areas. Smell of weed was rampant compared to other schools we visited on this trip. We were so excited about this being a possibility and my daughter crossed it off her list. Have not visited Maryland but a relative did and said it was nicer than they had heard. If we make it to the east coast we will consider it since the price is right and it is ranked highly in many programs.

Itโ€™s just a more put-together area and a lot more interesting. The beach, mountains, north, south, bay, food, cultural attractions, pro sports, overall academic communityโ€ฆ vastly superior plus a ton less violent crime.

Agree. The UMD people are running rings around the U Mich folks. Itโ€™s eye opening.

Since when did College Park get a beach and mountains? ๐Ÿค”

Small state. Has everything.

And, Michigan has the Great Lakes. Nobody is choosing College Park because thereโ€™s a beach hours away. But, if you truly need to grasp, so be it.

I'd take the mid Atlantic over the Midwest any day of the week.

It's not like U Michigan is Harvard or anything. For CS, UMDCP is fine.

Wow

UMD won . Eye opening. Now the state of Michigan has nothing but dark, cold misery and fewer modern era football championships than UMD.

+1 Also calculate the chances your kid will change majors. 80% do. My kid was one of them

Harvard would never pack a 100 k stadium for a team with less modern era football championships than UMD. They have more entertaining and important things to do. That would be a sign of an insignificant existence .

But violent crime in AA is 10x that of CP. I'd rather my kid have his bike stolen than be beaten up, stabbed or shot.

It couldn't ever compete since College Park has a beach. The small, but mighty, state that has EVERYTHING.

Yep .. beach, mountains, better more important cities, more money, better weather, better higher education community..

Itโ€™s not fair but it is what it is.

Wow. 5 Pages of one poster responding to themselves. Do you feel better now?

Iโ€™d probably go to UMD. Brin seems higher IQ than Page. UMD Sweeney (Fortnite) is the richest man in N. Carolina and alums launched Oculus, and Sirius Satellite. Alums invented the universal price code (bar code) and pulse Doppler radar. Better weather and an unlimited immediate job market from NASA, to Homeland Security, NSA and every government contractor.

Well, I guess it's settled. I'm sure everyone will be rushing to UMD now.
