2 high school juniors who were favorites at husel were made to play U16 instead of U19 while a husel coach’s DD (a freshman) played U19. They left and went to next level who then also made them play U16. Talk about recruitment sabotage….. |
Is Next Level local to DC or in Lancaster?
|
They are two separate clubs. Why in the world the person in PA chose the same name I don’t know. |
Isn't the U level played based on age, not skill? Maybe I'm missing something. |
What is the benefit to playing up to U19 if you are supposed to be on the U16 team? |
As a player, you are likely going to be more challenged and may develop more quickly. As a coach, if you think u19 has a better chance of winning you may stack your u19 team with all your top players regardless of age. Players can also play multiple age groups. |
Yes, but you're not going to be seen as much if recruitment is your goal. By U19, many in that age range have already been recruited at D1 level (they generally -not always- recruit earlier). Even top D2 and D3 are already recruiting for 2025. For our Tgiving tournament, several U16 top players were asked to "play up" with the U19 teams and declined for that reason. But, if you can play both or don't care about recruiting, then yes, you can be challenged and develop skills by playing up. My 2 cents. |
Yes, it’s based on age but some u16 are better than u19 so a coach might choose to play them up. |
You can also be a u14 and play up to u16 (or u19), giving you more years of exposure. Some coaches don’t like if you turn down an opportunity to play up and it can hurt the player. |
Agreed. Some of our U16s agreed for that reason (not wanting to piss off the coach). |
Oh my goodness this! And my kid doesn’t even play for Next Level! 🤣 |
The competition is much stronger at U19 and more college coaches attend those games at team showcases than U16. The better club players that are Freshman or Sophomores will get more looks playing up at U19. Just my opinion as I’ve personally seen attendance at big showcases (Winter Escape, Shooting Star, etc) over the years starting at U14 through U19. The college coaches line the fields at U19 and much less so for the younger age groups. |
DD now plays D3 and I have been to many of these tournaments over the years. Agree lots of coaches watch U19, probably more than U16 but depends on the club. Higher ranked clubs have more college coaches watching. And no college coaches watch U14 |
Interesting. This is not my experience at all. My kid, and others on the team, def got noticed at U14 level and we lots of coaches at the big tournaments. Ditto U16. At U19, our experience is there is not that many. Most of the big programs already have their class commitments. |
husel moms drink the kool-aid of the cra cra coach. |
