What's something that you get really sick and tired of having to explain to people?

That their vote will ultimately impact their community. “Why are my taxes so high?” “Why is there so much crime now?” “Where did all these panhandlers come from?”

EXACTLY! Nutritionist explained that to me day one

Stop sleeping with my husband

I have a friend who used to fold her husband’s clothing the way it came out of the dryer. If it was inside out when he put it in the hamper, that’s how it went in his drawer after washing

That because my parents came from one Asian country 70 years ago, that I am still American. I do not need to know about the best sushi or pho restaurant you visited or that you like your Chinese dry cleaner. I don't need to know that a Korean family was kind to you when you had your baby and that your child has the best Filipino teacher. I am an American. I speak English well because it is my native and first language and the one I have been speaking for over 50 years. You don't have to speak lower or louder to me because I have Asian features.

The people speaking to you must feel very proud of themselves for embracing diversity. That would annoy the heck out of me too. Why even bring that stuff up at all unless they have an innate insecurity about who they are?

I’m with you on this one. I eat to live, not live to eat.

I believe the opposite of this now that I've married into money.

Some of my ILs are the dumbest MFs around but are super successful because of name recognition and family money.

Is you MIL Paris Hilton?

Paris Hilton is actually a brilliant business woman, despite her famous name. She knows how to milk what people think of her into millions. Kudos to Paris!

Well you’re just mean then. I’m an American living in Europe, and often have Europeans tell me the same kind of anecdotes about their experiences in America. And I listen happily and really do care. Let me guess. You’re German?

+1
I get. Oh, you're originally from Texas. Do you have a gun? AND when I/myfriend/brother/cousin/etc was in (fill in the blank) they got held up at gun point..

Seriously, I don't believe them and I don't care. And I'm very anti-gun culture. I only lived in Texas until I was 8, but the reputation follows me everywhere. It wasn't even my choice.

Clicked on this thread to say exactly the opposite. The people who are most successful in business and law are not necessarily the smartest. Those with innate genius-level intelligence may not be able to parlay it into being successful.

That's true. Work ethic is important too.

So are the advantages and opportunities that come from being high SES.

I know one of these families, and sure the kids got their degrees, etc, but the other accolades were purely due to family contacts/position. Of course x’ s fiancée ended up on the Forbes under 30 list - family on the board. Of course kids live in multi-million dollar homes that it’s clear they could never afford on their own. Expensive vacations heavily posted on insta, start insta account on X or Y which turns into highly successful influencer account “just like that”. More power to them all - but please don’t pretend that it was all organic.

My husband has magically appearing underwear. He keeps opening the drawer and there's always clean, folded underwear in there. Magically!

I do this! It goes back in the closet the way it came in.

That you don’t need to eat constantly - always snacking and eating and eating and eating is not good for you. A light breakfast and a healthy lunch and simple dinner is sufficient and more than enough for your body
