Whatever you drive, whatever your taste, you owe it yourself to drive something you enjoy. You’re not getting another life when this one is over. So spend the time you have to spend behind the wheel driving something that makes you happy. If that’s a Prius, great. If it’s a Camry, good for you. If a Jeep Wrangler is your dream car, then get one. If you want to drive solo in a Suburban, do it. If you love Teslas, then drive what you love.

Just don’t suffer with some mundane car you don’t feel any passion for. Find something you care about. You’ll be dead one day, and dying with regret sucks.

Reading your post makes me feel like I'm examining an alien species that is completely foreign to me. I cannot understand how somebody would care so deeply about a hunk of metal, or feel "passion" for their car.

I feel passion for my loved ones. I feel passion for my work. But I simply drive my car -- it doesn't occupy some special place in my heart, and I certainly won't be regretting my car choice when I'm laying on my death bed.

Why do you feel it’s necessary to insult me? I think that was uncalled for, and boorish of you. I didn’t attack you or anyone else. I just said “life is short, drive something you enjoy”. And for that you call me an alien? WTF is wrong with you?

We (most people anyway) spend a lot of time in our cars. Driving is a major part of many people’s day, good or bad. Cars are something most Americans relate to. For something that occupies a major part of your day and is typically the second most expensive item people buy in their lives (after housing) it’s not really an insignificant thing. It’s not too much to suggest that people should have a car they enjoy.

Yes, I have people in my life that I love. I don’t love a vehicle the same way. It’s an appliance for transportation. But given the amount of time we spend in those appliances it’s not unreasonable to want it to be something that makes you feel happy while you’re in it.

A normal person understands this intuitively. You don’t. I hope things get better for you.

Your advice to drive whatever anybody wishes to drive comes right on the heals of a discussion about climate change, CO2 emissions and whether our society needs to think re-think its love affair with massive, low-MPG vehicles. So yeah, I didn't like your post because it you didn't even bother to address this issue. Very cavalier attitude towards the climate, but this, unfortunately, is the normal attitude in the USA. I don't understand how so many affluent, highly educated people simply don't care about the long-term consequences of their over-consumption, particularly given that they have children and grand children who will have to live with those consequences.

You must have earned your money in a job where punctuation wasn’t important.

Nissan Altima's, Chevy Malibu's, and the worst of them, all, the Dodge Charger. Every single one of these drivers have a special place in hell waiting for them.

We have a Charger Hellcat!

C’mon, why the hate? What’s wrong with them? They’re fun! We typically only drive on weekends, do Orange Line for work. We probably burn less fuel in a month than some commuting in a Corolla or Prius M-F. Why are you hating on Chargers?

I agree with this. I’m not saying go lease a ritzy $100,000 Mercedes but something you’re happy in and comfortable in makes drives much more enjoyable. People don’t think twice buying a really nice TV, really nice couch and recliners for a TV room. It’s largely for their comfort and few friends and associates will ever see it. What’s the big deal if I want to drive a big cozy loaded SUV?

^ In addition, people don’t think twice spending $100-250 on all the TV and streaming packages! But begrudge you for “wasting” an extra couple hundred bucks a month on a nicer car? Funny!

The drivers make me despise them. I split time between Baltimore and DC and my experience is that most of the drivers are overly aggressive and the cars unnecessarily loud. To add, too many times I've seen them do donuts or drag race in the middle of DC. Google search will link you to crimes committed with them in DC alone. Whenever I see them, I think must have little d, but probably also has a weapon.

I THINK WE'VE COVERED CLOSE TO 100% OF ALL CARS...TO EACH ITS OWN

We pay cash…..every time. Buy something you can afford.. in cash. 😀

If the interest rate is lower than inflation it makes sense to finance, not pay cash.

What so you can maximize pennies of your return. Not worth the bargain space to "owe" anyone anything. This only makes sense for very large purchases, like $1M+
