Huh? Why? You don’t think it’s going to be possible to drive out of that area?

Without power, I could not shower, blow dry my hair and get ready for work. So, no - I am not going in.

I honestly can’t tell if this poster is serious. You can’t go to work if you can’t blow dry your hair? Where I grew up (Midwest) this would clearly be a joke, but people in the DMV are… special.

Plus, water isn’t off— power is.

Like hell I’m taking a cold shower to go to work, so if my house has an electric water heater and power is out-I’m out.
Not to mention that when I taught HS I showered at 5 am and taking a shower in the pitch dark wouldn’t be on my to do list either.

lol. What a rough life you must have. For instance, your apparent inability to afford flashlights.

It’s a powerful plane, but that can be a rich persons first or 2nd plane - it left out of Westchester, NY, which is known for being wealthy.

The pilot probably got stuck in worse conditions than they anticipated, and either tried to fly under it to the airpark, or was inbound for landing and was way below glide slope.

It’s not his first plane. It’s his second crash.

Unreal.

How do you know that?

They looked up his flight record

Look further up the thread. NTSB investigations are public. The report on his earlier crash, when he flew his family into the ground in Utah, is linked to in an earlier comment.

So how does one lose their pilots license? How many crashes can you cause? Does he pay for private insurance- and how will this affect it?

Poor them. Just like the people whose houses now have no heat thanks to them knocking out the power. Or the patients that can't go to the MedStar Montgomery ER because it's on "mini disaster" mode.

So I agree that this situation is inconvenient for a lot of people, but....

It is 50 degrees outside. Nobody who would otherwise have heat is freezing. Nobody is unable to get medical treatment.
I could be interpreting you wrong, but are you blaming the people in that plane?

Yes. Occam's razor from the flight path suggests that the pilot screwed up the landing approach and came in too low which took him into a power line. The pilot is easy to find on Google since they released the registration number. He has previous form for crashing a plane in the '90s due to (wait for it) flying too low.

Well how old is this dude now?

In his 60s.

The dude is 65, an arrogant lawyer-type who looks in his Twitter pic like he thinks he's hot shit. Had a 66-year-old Grandma as a passenger.

Well, another lawyer famously crashed his plane into the ocean 20-some years ago. But no one was inconvenienced back then, save for the rescue crews..

You are criticizing a crash victim who is hanging from an electrified power line, based upon his photo??

You really need psychological help.

It seems that many locations have lower again.

If we never lost power, should we expect that it may go out later?
DH left on a work trip and i’m home with the baby and toddler.

You saw the posts above. How could teachers possibly be expected to work if they can’t blow dry their hair?

I can't believe those poor people are still on the plane.

Time to go back to page 1 and re-read. Something about 120,000 people without power…school depot and food affected and 44 schools with no power. But besides that…

My father is reading about this from the other side of the country. He was a 40 year journeyman & lineman foreman for high power transmission lines.

Apparently these lines that were hit are major power transmission sources for the eastern seaboard that runs from Niagara all the way down to Florida. So when they shut down, it can cause cascading issues. It’s a damn miracle these people were not killed.

Lots of schools won’t have electricity tomorrow. It’s going to get worse before it gets better.
