- It's an alternative to landing at one of the three major airports. Planes in an emergency can be diverted there, kept away from DC.

- It keeps the traffic down at the major airports. Would you rather these less experienced pilots and small planes be sent to DCA?

- It provides a place for agricultural planes

- It brings in tax revenue

- It's home to the local Civil Air Patrol - "Civil Air Patrol is America’s premier public service organization for carrying out emergency services and disaster relief missions nationwide" https://montgomerymd.cap.gov/about/mission

That’s all interesting. A genuine thank you to you.

The local HS has a pilot program

He is a trained pilot. There are crashes all over the country by trained experienced pilots in small planes. It's called pilot error.

I don't think regular people should be able to get a license.

Where do pilots come from? Are they irregular people?

Why are you so unhinged? Regular people shouldn't be able to fly and get their licenses

You don't think pilots are just regular people? What makes them special? Are they born with wings?

They either know not to fly in a storm or can fly in a storm.

They don’t crash into houses and kill a mom and baby.

This is his second plane crash.

The alternative to flying from Westchester to DC is to drive on I-95. You ever try that on a holiday weekend? Amtrak? Have you seen Union Station after dark these days?

I flew it was not big deal, no delays. Get Clear if you can afford a plane. I walk right through the security, no wait.

Oh maybe a guy that has crashed 2 planes can't get a clear pass.

Isn’t that what metamucil is for? Why would there be so many irregular pilots? I think that would be particularly unpleasant for a pilot, given the restrooms on airplanes.

This pilot didn't kill anyone. What are you smoking over there?

There are red flashing lights on the towers.

Thank you. Whoever suggested that the County should just put lights on the towers is an idiot. Of course anything this tall has lights on it already and that’s a federal regulation.

I don’t know whether these power line towers have lights, but I don’t think they’re required to. The federal regulation is 200 ft above ground level or the elevation of the airport.

Complete speculation, but the pilot was possibly scud running. It's the same thing that killed Kobe Bryant.

There have been 2 recent accidents of rich d-bags flying into that airport and 1 killed a mom and baby.

Recent? That's six years ago. How many children have been hit and killed in crosswalks since then? You are tilting at windmills, Quixote.

There has to be more regulation in who can fly planes. Just not anyone should be able to get one

DP. I am more bothered by the taxpayer funds that were wasted trying to rescue this joker and his passenger and whatever funds were spent getting power back to all the people who lost it. And how about the impacts on the people without power for all those hours.

Just because someone didn't die doesn't make this remotely okay.

They should sent this jerk a bill.

Plus all the people who lost food, many of whom will.have to struggle financially to replace it, or just eat it and see what happens. We lost power for 7+ hours.

That pilot shouldn't have been flying on a poor weather day. He needs to get his license pulled.
