Hey, Michigan fans played a pretty big role in getting Dave Brandon to leave Michigan. Fans can have a big influence on a program. |
The Brandon story and conference realignment are apples and oranges. Fans have no influence on the conference expansion/realignment decisions being made by the B1G and SEC schools, or those schools thinking about/wishing to join. |
If a program makes a decision about pretty much anything and fans stop going to games, the program will reconsider. Ultimately fans have a ton of power because they’re the ones spending money. |
If Texas switched to the B1G it would be an earthquake. Then Florida would want in the B1G would add Stanford or Cal for the Bay Area and ND would probably be forced to join. It would be completely dominant. The only question is if the B1G would want the total control the attacks and vindictiveness that would happen. The SEC and B1G being competitive probably brings in enough states to be politically protected. |

Can’t wait till they Add UCLA and USC to this https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1JCkoA6qvNU |

I can’t see Texas going to the B1G. I think they stay put and reap the riches in an expanded SEC.
I don’t think the B1G does anything until Notre Dame inevitably makes the decision to join them. At that point they nab likely Cal and Stanford and one other school before standing pat at 20. This may sound unpopular, but I think the B1G should nab Connecticut as the 20th school. I have zero ties to UCONN. I know their football program is in the ditch right now (and has been for a decade), but looking long-term — this is a top public university in New England, has a storied basketball history, has a national following with its women’s team in particular, and offers notable inroads into the New York (more so than Rutgers), Hartford, and Boston media markets. If their football program turns a corner, I think there is tremendous potential there. Anyway, we’ll see. |

Texas may go the B1G quickly before formally joining the SEC
My prediction is Texas , Florida, ND and either Stanford or Cal joining the B1G and that will be the 20. Just a completely dominant and powerful alliance from coast to coast bordering the Atlantic, Pacific, Gulf and Canada with the biggest research schools and media markets. The B1G played 5D chess. |
And top to bottom, they still will lose to the SEC in football. |
Not true for Michigan, but ok. https://wolverineswire.usatoday.com/lists/michigan-football-all-time-record-vs-the-sec-conference-college-football/ |
|
And actually the SEC only has a winning all time record vs Illinois and Northwestern.
Most of the SEC is awful. They ride on the wins of Bama, which is only a relatively recent thing. They were awful before the last 15 years or so. https://secfootballonline.com/sec-vs-big-ten-all-time-head-to-head-football-record/ |
Look at the last 16 National Champions. 12 SEC, 3 ACC, 1 Big 10: 2021 Georgia 2020 Alabama 2019 LSU 2018 Clemson 2017 Alabama 2016 Clemson 2015 Alabama 2014 Ohio State 2013 Florida State 2012 Alabama 2011 Alabama 2010 Auburn 2009 Alabama 2008 Florida 2007 LSU 2006 Florida |
If Bama wasn’t in the SEC, it would be clear how much the rest of the conference is awful. But you all act as though it’s this super strong conference through and through. |
|
I see the B1G prioritizing both Cal and Stanford over Texas. By doing so they nail down (with UCLA and USC) the four premier programs and the two largest media markets in the country’s largest state. I don’t see any scenario of under which only Cal or Stanford goes. Like UCLA and USC I see them as a package.
The likelihood of ND joining the B1G continues to grow — slowly but steadily. |
OK, remove Alabama and you still have 6 SEC, 3 ACC, 1 Big 10. |
DP but since the creation of the NCAA, UM has one championship and UMD has one and a half championship. |
