Private & Independent Schools
pls explain |
I knew it well in the past. Something like this n ends the story told. |
| B/c it’s a glorified cram house with no reward at the end of the road, and no athletic prowess to speak off. The question is why would anyone send a child to any Basis, in my opinion? I’d far far rather go to a public school. In fact, they are very good there. |
It’s like a private club. Yes, many of the students are smart and come from academic families. Yes, many of the students go to top universities, probably because of legacy or connections. However, I have not heard students excelling in these universities. In fact I know several students transferring, taking a year off and even quitting. |
With no specifics and suspicious timing, this story doesn't add up unless someone plugged into the school right now can provide details. None of the director jobs are advertised. Any current parents or staff willing to chime in here? |
| It's a corporate school owned by the Chinese. Why would you send your kids there? |
Current staff here. It’s all true. They haven’t announced to parents yet. They haven’t even formally announced it to us (the directors wrote their own personal farewells). Personally I know of 8 teachers who have resigned but there are probably even more. The lack of communications from the school is because a) they have always been terrible at that and b) they are scrambling and want to know what the plan is before they say anything. |
Wow. They almost seemed to have some stability after the new HoS lasted a full year. But when I heard the Ops director was promoted up the ladder at BASIS Independent, I knew the overall culture hadn't changed. Now this. I left BIM in spring 2020 and tumbled into a charter school with the best managers I have ever worked for anywhere. It really is a whole new world. |
Bwahahahahahaha Hopefully more than the parents who are posting. |
| All of their marketing makes it look like they cater to troubled kids or kids with severe social/learning challenges (to be polite). |
That's 180 degrees wrong. BIM wants test-factory kids obsessed with scores and achievement. They have no capacity to cope with anyone else. It's a school for grinds. |
| For people paying for private school, it’s not what most with choices would spend their money on. YMMV. |

Heard this was a calculated resignation when the last paycheck was received on Friday (check PP). Some of these teachers had a job lined up earlier this year (and some didn't, but were actively looking) and still made the conscience decision not to tell the school. They are mad, disgruntled, and certainly have a right to feel the way they do. The HOS is holding the staff accountable for the first time in years. Change is hard. They decided to do what's best for them without any disregard for our kids or colleagues. Maybe this is a blessing in disguise... and for the company to change their policy. 🤔
I wouldn't expect any school or business to communicate this the same day. |

“The HOS is holding the staff accountable for the first time in years.”
Haha. He’s a puppet for the higher ups with no actual power just like every HOS before him. |
"Accountable"? LOL. When I was there before this HOS, everyone in management lied to my face, some multiple times, none with any admission or apology later even when it was blatantly obvious. I had hoped that the new guy would start off changing that, but if this resignation wave is true (which I am still waiting to hear confirmed from someone with a real name), then it has been more of the same. |
