Will your DC wear mask to school when Youngkin lifts school mask mandate next week?

What are the chances your student keeps the mask on?

Never underestimate the power of peer pressure. Other students don't have to say anything, either. Students want to fit in to the scene and not look awkward. A tale as old as time.

Sorry. There aren't that many anti-mask nut jobs in Northern VA.

You'd be surprised.

I’m not anti mask but I am a teacher and do not think they are effective. Come spend a day in my high school. Come spend an hour. I will take the mask off the second it is allowed and never teach with one again. I’m not anti mask and don’t care if you wear one. I had covid and was vaccinated and boostered. So have many of my students. I don’t discuss with them but they constantly say they don’t feel like they need to wear one anymore. I remind them it is the school rule and they need to put it on. Silently, I agree with them as do many of my colleagues.

And many of your FCPS colleagues disagree.

Well I’m shocked at the people willing to experiment on their kids with a new injectable technology.

I’ve been amazed for years at parents who raise their kids on crap food and the tv.

My children have been aware since very early in that this was never a risk to children and even less so because we raised them with health in mind. They know that pharmaceutical companies that have had to pay out millions for damaging/killing people with (some) if their FDA-approved products are not the source of their health.

Most kids don’t like to stick out so they may not be the first to drop them.

Tell that to my 5yo who has covid and almost had to be taken to the ER.

I am so sorry. Your experience is why the parent selfishness in this thread objecting the rather limited sacrifice of their children wearing masks in school is so frustrating.

I'm sorry too. The ignorance and selfishness that this pandemic has brought to light is difficult to unsee.

The $150 per day is certainly not worth risking a disease whose consequences aren’t fully understood. I imagine there are lots of other teachers and especially subs who feel the same way.

+1. It’s a lot easier for subs to quit than teachers and we are in short supply already!

Haven’t heard anything yet from our schools lifting the mask requirement, so I assume it will still be in place come Monday.

I feel the opposite way. I don’t see how their poorly worn masks are doing anything and hear how schools have been open without masks throughout the pandemic. I will enforce whatever rules my district, FCCPS sets. I am concerned they want to mask forever and will keep the mask mandate next year too. If that’s the case I will go to any district nearby that doesn’t require them.

I’m in FCCPS and think a lot of people here want to mask forever. Please stay and be a reasonable voice! My kids will keep masking because it makes them feel comfortable and they’re very aware of the social blow-back they’d get if they unmasked. I’ll leave it up to them to decide if/when they stop wearing masks once it’s no longer mandated.

A lot there do want to mask forever. While I would love to be a reasonable voice, I will never speak up because that would not be well received by those making the highest decisions. The mask forever and push on vaccinations is a turn off for many. I am fully vaccinated and boosted but do not like the constant pressure on parents to vaccinate and booster their children. I think it should be a personal decision and find it overreaching and upsetting. I can only say that on an anonymous forum. I believe in vaccines but think it’s up to parents to decide for their own children and don’t like the constant announcements, emails and tweets.

FCCPS has instituted a "vaccine passport"-you cant attend indoor sporting events nor musicals without a vaccine--I believe even the 5-11 kids need the "passport"---will this stay legal under Youngkin?

Totally pro vax here but FCCPS has really created a hostile atmosphere, if you dont subscribe to "Dr" Noonan, DR or ED SCIENCE LOL then you feel like living as a gay person in the most homophobic town back in the 50s.....so at a certain point---can I pay these taxes and support this hostility? Or the bigger question is--do I want to?

Not quite you can choose to get vaccinated but it to be gay. And no when you pay taxes you don’t get to select which pet programs your money goes to.

My kid is not an idiot, so yes, DC will keep masking.

+1 There are a LOT. They've just been hiding under their masks to fit in..

Many bi/gay people think the stance of "being gay is not a choice" as very homophobic in the present world--it was necessary in the 90s to move the movement along,, however real equality is choosing who you love or have sex with.

Geez, who can keep up with what we are and are not allowed to say. Sleep with whomever you like. Leave me out of it.

Yay I love learning that our amazing graduate-level teachers are so completely unable to read data. And I love knowing you view my kids as vectors of disease.

They were vectors of germs and viruses before COVID. 😊

My sister is a police officer who had four extended encounters with Covid positive co-workers, witnesses etc in the last 2 weeks— I am talking hours of close contact, not minutes. She wore a kn95 mask religiously and emerged unscathed.

So what will you do if some of your students show up with no masks? Quit?

Out of curiosity, do you teach elementary or middle/high school? Just curious if you have around 20 students total or around 100.

NP. I have around 120 students and a windowless classroom. I will review all of my options if kids go maskless this year, including using any leave available to me or resigning.

This year??? What makes you an expert determining this? So after the Omicron surge has passed, and hospital numbers have declined, and vaccines have long been avaiable to everyone 5 and over (no the under 5 set is not at risk!), you will still cling to mask security even though most scientists agree that, outside of a surge, masks are not all that effective or necessary in schools? I didn't realize that so many of our classrtoom teachers are also epidemiologits

Youngkin has immediately put school children at risk. Absolutely disgusting.
