These policies are not doing addicts any favors. An addict in a state of withdrawal is incapable of thinking rationally. Jail isn't ideal but sometimes involuntary incarceration is what it takes for an addict to get the drugs out of their system and to give the brain a little time to heal. Mandatory 90 day rehab would be better but there are not nearly enough spaces for broke addicts to meet demand. In any event, with the exception of marijuana, the effective legalization of all drugs in many localities has been a colossal failure that's led to tragedy for so many families. Progressives really need to wake up to the harm their policies are doing to so many communities in the US. |
