Crime in LA

Looked for a thread to post this, but none were appropriate.

Between the horrible thefts of goods on the railroad in LA and the trash left by thieves, there are also murders on the rise.

Thankfully, the US attorney decided to get involved in this case......

Luis Alfredo de La Rosa Rios, 29, Ernesto Cisneros, 22, Jesse Contreras, 33, and Haylee Marie Grisham, 18, are all charged with “violent crimes in aid of racketeering,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office reported Thursday.

The charge of violent crime in aid of racketeering carries a potential death penalty and a minimum sentence of life in federal prison without the possibility of parole because the fatal shooting occurred during a robbery.

Rios, Cisneros and Contreras are all active gang members, federal prosecutors said, while Grisham is considered a gang associate. In a post-arrest interview, Grisham allegedly told investigators she had been dating Rios for about a year.

In the interview, she also said that Rios and two other gang members were “looking for people to rob” on the night of Arroyos’ death. the 27-year-old Arroyos was a three-year veteran of the LAPD.

L.A. County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said Thursday he directed detectives to take the case to the U.S. Attorney’s Office because of his opposition to L.A. County District Attorney George Gascon’s decision to no longer pursue sentencing enhancements in gang cases.

“I believe their plan was to just prosecute a simple murder with no gun enhancements, no gang enhancements, nothing,” Villanueva said at a news conference.

As a liberal who believes in gun control, I don't get how supposedly-liberal prosecutors can be so soft on crimes involving guns.

It just makes no sense.

It's almost as if it was never about the guns and more about ignoring crime for their own gain.

The sheriff is jumping the gun. They are likely getting life for what he calls “simple” murder.

There is serious sickness in the way these DAs perceive non-white people with respect to their ability to participate in society.

As long as the case remains with the Feds, I am happy.
I have no faith at all that Gascon would aggressively prosecute the murderers of a police officer.

It’s not. The crime stats are not “equitable” and therefore…you either lower the bar to allow things to get ignored or you keep incarcerating people.

2A does not allow people to commit crimes - especially murder - with firearms.

Signed, a staunch 2A supporter.

Can Rios also be charged with statutory rape?

Wow Houston’s crime rate is double LA’s in every category?

Were any of you around in the 1990s when crime rates in LA and elsewhere were much worse?

Sure. Let's watch as it gets that bad again.

I lived in LA county (Long Beach) in the 90s. On a personal experience level, the crime rate didn't seem that bad. Many of my friends that currently live in the LA area have posted about their experiences as victims of crime (mostly home robberies) recently.
