I have to think that they would be highly inclined to find any way they could for her to keep her scholarship and degrees, because this looks so embarrassing for both institutions. Therefore I think the odds of wrongdoing by Fierceton seem high. Universities never, ever want to admit they made admissions mistakes.

You missed the lawsuit portion of the story. That gives them a high motive.

No, it doesn’t. For institutions the size of Penn, Fierceton’s involvement in the lawsuit is irrelevant. Also, the Rhodes committee is independent entirely of the lawsuit.

Rhodes was fed BS from Penn.

Nothing is irrelevant.

Come on. The Rhodes committee is not going to just take the word of Penn, and they didn’t. They did their own investigation, with access to records that aren’t public, and reached their own conclusions.

I don’t trust a college to do an “investigation” clearly they botch every rape case. Cops do investigations not schools. They were fed BS, they even are stupid enough to say “her cousin said…”, what? Who cares did her cousin see the stair incident? If not, did it not happen?

Rhodes did a full investigation… in her state with physical evidence. No not even close.

You seem oddly worked up about this.

Do you think she should keep her Rhodes scholarship in light of everything that has come out? I have a hard time seeing why that would be the right decision with the facts we have.

Sure, why not?

They admitted her because she can do the work and she has a troubled upbringing.

All of that is still true.

She has no family (emancipated), she was abused (mother pushed her down stairs and hospitalized for - a month), her father abandoned her, she was in foster care, her mom is enough of a psycho she contacted Rhodes/Penn to tell “her side of the story… psycho!)

The rest is so minor in light of her psycho family.

I’m so sorry, but that makes no sense at all. There are other candidates who didn’t lie like this. The scholarship should go to a more deserving student.

I don’t think they were wrong to admit her - she could clearly do the work and excelled. I do think this is a reflection of what happens when universities and awards etc put a lot of chips down on the “personal hardship” narrative.

I question the honesty of her academic achievements in light of these revelations.

No, they would not. This is retaliation against a young woman.

Interesting that you're stuck on this. You seem surprisingly protective of her abusive mother. Both the mother and the mother's boyfriend abused her. I found a facebook page that reported on the abuse that happened years ago and the comments are horrifying. I believe the mother paid $$ to attack her daughter to clean up her reputation.

There is no such thing as “more deserving”. Are you going to ensure every applicant never embellished a story ever? Please. She has a terrible family life and amazingly tragic story. That is what they looked for, That is what they got.

You are not going to admit an abused person with no issues. When you find out they have issues you throw them in the trash? Nice societal values there.

Stop trying to push the false narrative that she lied. She didn't. She was open about her family and background. You keep skewing it to smear her.

Anonymous wrote:So to summarize -

1. Her mother is a doctor
2. There was some kind of incident between mother and teenage daughter that led to abuse charges (later dropped)
3. The daughter was actually in foster care for a period of time
4. The daughter definitely embellished significant parts of her origin story

Wow, that's a lot. Fierceton sounds like she has a few screws loose, but maybe so does her mother?

And the bio mom ratted out the daughter after she had won the Rhodes (BTW Ivies, in particular, spend a lot of time selecting and grooming Rhodes' candidates - of course Penn would take it away, and diploma, if she faked her story, which her bio mom says she did).

You left out the 22 days in the hospital after her mother physically abused her.

with a week of that in the pediatric intensive care unit. Explain that.

I think that Fierceton has found this thread. Otherwise there is no way to explain some of these crazy posts.

Woah. Unhinged overreaction here.

I guess that is confirmation that we don’t know that the mother called in the tip. Of there was actually evidence, we would know.

I’ve suffered horrific abuse, as in someone is *still* in prison for what happened to me. This is unrelated to the fact that I’m not a first gen college grad, and I’m not from a financially/economically disadvantaged family of origin.

I'm sorry. I hope you have some peace.

Thank you so much -- this actually means so much to me to read. Truly, thank you.

I'm going to take a guess that it was a former classmate's family who called in the tip that all was not what it seemed.

There sure is some Qanon level conspiracy theories on her to justify abuse and placement of a child in foster care.

Just when I think DCUM can't go any lower, it does. Don't ever disappoint me DCUM.
