Lily Collins is too thin in Emily in Paris

100% agree. Beautiful clothes with a slight edge. Emily looks juvenile most of the time with her excessively matching clothes and bucket hats.

My issue with Emily's clothes is that they are supposed to be a couture version of street wear. But that look doesn't work when you're a narc and social media obsessed Basic white girl from the wealthy Chicago suburbs.

I still can't figure out if Darren Star wants Emily to be an object of emulation or scorn/ridicule. There are moments where we are clearly supposed to empathize with her and "take her side." But she's also just so horribly vapid and navel gazing.

I guess Carrie Bradshaw was the same way. That's why I view Emily in Paris as the true successor to SATC - it's moving through the same character arch.

Have you... never seen a romantic comedy before?

This is standard rom-com fare. The plucky screw-up with the heart of gold. She's constantly getting into embarrassing scrapes, which is relatable to especially young women who feel like they are still trying to figure out how to act at work and who make dumb mistakes. But she's also a good friend and genuinely cares about other people, which is how most people like to see themselves. This is a very standard avatar for this kind of story.

The different thing about SATC is that Carrie & friends were a decade older, and also the focus in the show was on their relationship more than their romantic entanglements (for the most part, obviously with some exceptions). But EiP is much more standard in this respect.

Except Emily isn’t a good friend. And neither was Carrie.
Both very unlikeable people.
I actually find Emily worse than Carrie. Carrie wouldn’t have slept with a friend’s boyfriend, and she’s far less full of herself.

Alfie is the hottest man I’ve seen on TV in awhile. They should hook him up with Sylvie. I can’t think of anything likeable or attractive about Emily. She has nice hair I guess.

I love the Dutch photographer (sylvies boytoy)
So hot

Not really to my taste, but he seemed cool and I liked his relationship with Sylvie.

It’s extensions.

This. I don't understand all the hate. Some people are just tiny just like some are big. My grandmother was 4'11 tiny little thing who had no problems whatsoever with eating. She loved to cook and eat!

People don’t watch the show because she is short, they watch the show because her waist is smaller than her head.

Uh, that's not why I watch the show. It sounds like you are obsessed with her body and fixated on that, which is your problem. I mostly watch the show for the Paris setting, the costume design, the disdainful French people, and the occasional laugh. Emily could be 30 lbs heavier and I'd still watch it for the same reasons.

I'm not understanding the hate for this show and AJLT.
It's comedy, farce, escapism, not real... I enjoy the fashion and ridiculousness.
We're overthinking it.

She always had the most amazing hair (to go with her eyebrows).

Lily Collins and Kaitlyn Collins (CNN WH reporter) both have the same perfect hair and thick eyebrows.

I wonder if they are related?

I want to watch a whole show about Sylvie. I love her wardrobe - but I love Camille's too. And I think the singer friend looks great even though she wears ridiculous clothes - she somehow makes them look kinda cool.

Carrie was cooler, though. Emily has no chill. None at all.

She's a go getter at work. You have to give her that.

and no authentic style sense, which Carrie had in spades.
