Still dwarfed by the #1 cause of death-- heart disease-- caused by obesity, high blood pressure etc. Objectively, we have a way higher prevalence of dangerously out of shape women than anorexic women. |
Whataboutism. Both can be unhealthy. |
I guess what I'm saying is, this concern is completely disingenuous. We are supposed to celebrate Lizzo's body type and consider the Bridgerton female star an unsung hero simply because she is obese, while we are also supposed to mock a thin actress's body for being supposedly unhealthy. I can't take this seriously. This isn't about health, it's about shame, full stop. |
Please research how great anorexia is for your heart if you’re going to pretend to be concerned about heart disease… |
US Deaths from anorexia: 10,200 a year. US Deaths from obesity: 280,000 a year. |
In other words, deaths from obesity are 28 times more frequent than deaths from anorexia. |
Both are terrible for you. You should neither be anorexic nor obese. But by the numbers, obesity is much more contagious than anorexia. Yet we pretend obesity is hot and thin people (not even anorexic) are the sick ones. It's some kind of bizarre psyop. |
Most people are saying both anorexia and obesity are bad. Nobody is saying a healthy thin person is actually unhealthy, not sure where you’re getting that. Can we stick to the topic (Lily Collins) without whataboutisms about obesity, humble brags about being naturally skinny (and before you start, I’m skinny too) or complaints that Lizzo is part of some bizarre psy-op about obesity being healthy after all, as opposed to, you know, part of the body positivity movement for people who have difficulty losing the weight. So we’re talking about Lily Collins. Who was heavier in the past, has suffered from anorexia in the past, and it’s a lifelong disease. And she’s super skinny in season 4. True, none of us sit at the table with her every day. But there is some consensus here that she’s under-eating again. What do you guys think about THIS? |
How is frequency relevant? If someone gets hit by a car and is seriously injured do you think it helps to shout at them that heart disease kills more people? |
Thank you! This has gone too far. |
The premise of this thread is that she's too thin. It's literally in the title. Why is it okay to pick apart the body of thin person (and all the health issues that may come along with being too slight), but at the same time, we would never be allowed to have such a thread debating whether Lizzo is too overweight. Your argument is that the body positivity movement is to show kindness toward women who've needed to lose weight. So where's the kindness toward this actress that has struggled with anorexia? Do you really think threads like this are showing kindness? Everything is a study in contrast. We can't talk about whether this lady is too thin unless we establish what kind of weight is socially acceptable. And I'm just over here noticing that everyone is supposed to find Lizzo acceptable but not Lily Collins. And I'm challenging that. I think she looks fine and her weight is not relevant to my enjoyment of the show. I'm here for the energy and fashion and not to declare that the lead doesn't have the right body for the role. |
... are you the person who's mad at the reporter who congratulated Blake Lively on her pregnancy, by any chance? And no one said she doesn't have "the right body for the role" - people have noticed that she looks thinner, and already looked very thin, and wondering if that means an ED is recurring. That is pretty reasonable conversation. |
+2. Lily had an ED in the past. She's even thinner than she was in previous episodes. It's a reasonable conversation to have, and no need to bring Lizzo into it. |
I’m thin and think it’s disturbing there are people practically defending anorexia. Yes, Lizzo is too fat and obesity is also unhealthy. This is not that thread. Feel free to start your own. Makes me wonder if you have an ED. |
No. My only comment on that thread was that she'll survive this PR crisis. It is reasonable to wonder if she is anorexic if she looks like Eugenia Clooney or something like that. She looks fairly normal to me, though. The show is good and I don't know why we have to pick on her. |
