I never tried the Hunger Games class, but I did the Disney bodyweight class and the Halloween class, both from 2021, because of this thread. Both classes were chaotic but weren't the atrocious dumpster fires I was expecting. |
12/7/21 also - didn’t see this one when I posted before! |
Big fan of Denis, Jen and Christine for the way the use the music as part of the ride. Doesn’t matter the genre, they align resistance/cadence with it so you are working with the music. Took one Bradley Rose class and he was so off the music, it was laughable. Wish I liked Leanne because I like her playlists, but her voice grates on me. Like Matt (PZ) Alex, Hannah F. and Kendall for variety once in awhile. Avoid the instructors who are all about the show. Can still get a good workout with them, but not worth the annoyance. Best thing — there’s someone for almost everyone. |
While I will agree that Rebecca is rather awkward and a bit of an acquired taste, her standing core classes really are very good. She frequently focuses on deep core muscles and/or parts of the core that get neglected in more standard core workouts. I'm not sure I would ever do them exclusively, but I certainly think they are worth incorporating into one's week. The Core for Runners classes from Becs have a similar vibe. |
Two things. First, I just don't click with her instructional style with way I do with, say, Robin or Hannah F. or Tunde. I find Olivia bland. Second, and more important, she's too unstructured for me. The HIIT & Hills I tried with her were a lot of, "Now you're in a hill! Go!" and "Now we're in an interval! Go!" with no sense of overall class structure, timing, etc. Maybe it was just the few I tried, but they were bad enough that I have no desire to try her again. By contrast, Hannah F. structures her HIIT & Hills beautifully and communicates that structure clearly at the beginning of the class. Maybe Olivia has a plan in mind, but it doesn't seem like it. As someone who was coached at a pretty high level in my previous athletic life, I find that tendency both frustrating and lazy. |
I definitely agree with this. I don't love RK, but I do like incorporating her every now and then. ESPECIALLY the standing core classes. I can totally see how RK classes can be overwhelming and a turnoff to people who are just starting out or who want more of a steady state / traditional workout. She moves pretty quickly and often in odd ways that can take some getting used to (dancer, gymnastics, type moves). But as someone who has been doing bootcamps, HIIT, and various things for a few years now, I enjoy mixing it up and doing interesting things besides a ton of crunches, dead bugs, and planks. |
I wish they would tell instructors not to sing along to the music!! Just did Selena’s David Bowie run and had her off key vocals blasting in my ear. She’s guilty of this a lot!! Many other instructors say things like, I want to sing along but I’ll spare you… |
How is Camila? Is there anyone you’d compare her to? To give a sense of my preferences, my favorite instructors are Cody, Hannah F, and Emma.
Thanks! |
I think you would like her! She's friendly and very encouraging and body positive. |
Thank you! I really enjoyed her ride. Low-key personality, which I really like, but a challenging ride. |
I’ve taken my last Robin ride today. She used to be a fairly tough instructor and I enjoyed the challenge. But today her commentary was primarily about her and her daughter, she pretty much danced while making God awful faces into the screen, and it was obvious she turned the knob left while directing us to turn right. She’s mostly into showboating and not instructing these days. |
Anyone else doing Emma’s Crush Your Core 2 program? They are not the hardest, but I find them to be surprisingly enjoyable, probably because she includes a lot of Pilates moves. I think she’s an excellent teacher. |
I feel like my problems with Robin are not just that she talks too much; probably more importantly she seems VERY disingenuous (much more so than she used to be). I remember taking her turkey burn ride last year and she did a call out to mothers that felt really moving and real, and yet her rides lately just seem VERY fake. And I don't mind talkers all the time, I LOVE Cody, but Cody has not lost his 'realness' whatever that is. |
For the strength classes, I wish the instructors would give the full instructions during the first set. Sometimes you'll be on the third set and they will say something like "make sure to bend you knee here" or something like that. Info that would have been good to have since the beginning. |
I’m doing it. I really like Emma’s core classes but I dislike the program because I don’t like the pressure of having to do the classes in order and basically every day. I prefer to mix it up and do different instructors (I try to do core every day). |
