Fairfax County GT/AAP Decisions

I think a 14 is very good.

How much weight is the GBRS/Comments given?
Anonymous
I think GBRS scores are given ALOT of weight...but maybe someone with more experience can answer better.

Given the number of files the committee examines, the quantified information has to be more important. That would be (in no particular order): GBRS, Test Scores, Report cards. I understand GBRS is quantifying the qualitative....

That's a really good score, but I've heard that teachers are giving higher and higher scores to avoid confronting parents. Was also told the narrative is what committee really looks at on these forms, eg are the examples silly or trivial. There are soMe key words that probably tip the scales one way or another. Either way, you need to review what is submitted for your child and counter any thing that says the child really does belong in aap. Hope this helps.

yes, much like the game played with performance evaluations; might sound good on the surface but rmight really be just damning with faint praise unless you know the key words to look for.

What are the "Key Words?" I read the commentary and the committee seemed to put pretty good bullet points supporting each of the categories from the ratings page. I sorta wish my resume read as well....LOL

Interesting line of posts. If your resume sounds too good to be true, some may conclude it is. LOL

can anyone recommend someone who can administer the WISC IV test? I see that GMU will do them but Ive heard some people haven't been happy with their experiences with the grad students handling them.

You might want to post this question on the FCAG Yahoo group -- or even search the archives there. I have seen lots of recommendations posted on that list.

If a 3rd grader has scores that would make them eligible to be in the 2nd grade pool (over 130 in at least one area), is it common to be rejected? How do you find out what your child's gifted rating from the school is?
Anonymous
about 60-70 percent of the "in pool" candidates are deemed eligible. set up a meeting with the AART at your school to view the GBRS that was prepared for your child.

Does anyone know when appeals decisions are supposed to be mailed this year? I understood before April but not sure.
