Very cringe because you think you just voted out the school board when in fact you voted for governor.

+1. Fools. You guys sure showed them!

The School Board isn’t up for re-election until 2023, but parents aren’t going away. And they are now on clear notice that every one of them except McLaughlin stands to be removed then unless they stop their clown-car antics.

Do you realize that parents think different things and have different opinions? Or do you only value the ones who hear about nonsense from Tucker Carlson and scream at school boards about the assigned issues?

You sound like Obama when he deigned to campaign for McAuliffe. Out of touch, willfully blind to what’s been happening in public schools, and ignored by the majority of voters.

She probably has her kids in private so it doesn’t affect her. Or she doesn’t have kids. Or she’s an old Arlington liberal whose kids are grown.

Out of touch.

Not PP but having different opinions doesn’t mean someone is out of touch, it means they do not agree with you. I’m not happy with the SB either but I think right wingers completely astroturfed social media-including this forum-and convinced parents Democrats alone are responsible for the fall of education. Ignoring the changing demographics that contribute to local systems being overwhelmed. Ignoring that Republican led states often completely undermine public education and do not have good outcomes. Ignoring that CRT is not a thing. And that outsiders were brought in to stir crap up. That charter schools and vouchers have failed miserably in most cases bc they are not held to any standards.
You can call me names, be patronizing, etc, I still do not agree with you PPs. And yes, I am paying attention. I will vote for SB who are focused on academics in 2023. But this? Sticking it to the Dems when there is so much more at stake? Nah.

Fairfax County voted in large numbers for Democrats. I did not. So, I'm not sure if the School Board gets the message or not. Doubtful, as they seem to be zealots. Just look at their non-official social media. Pekarsky, Mehren, Keys-Gamarra, Frisch, Omeish, Cohen, etc.
They have vocally supported CRT by other names: "anti-racism" for example

The system has paid big bucks in support of "anti-racism." They are now going to discuss putting an "activist" academy at Lewis High School. They have changed names of schools--to include a school that was named for a neighborhood. The funds spent on this are not insignificant. Millions of dollars changing names that could have been spent on hiring tutors for kids that need help. Something that might really have made a difference.

One of our former SB members has publicly said that they need to "own" CRT.

Most people don't really care what party the SB is. They just want good schools--not incubation factories for "social justice"--which is anything but.

Sorry, but if you're still suggesting that the opposition to current education trends is primarily due to "astroturfing," or that "CRT is not a thing," you either haven't been paying attention or are simply looking for a way to avoid reality.

The Democrats created conditions locally where the response to Covid, like the response to every other major challenge FCPS has been facing, has been woefully inadequate, because the schools are run and overseen by second-rate bureaucrats and low-quality School Board members who spend 75% of their time saying what they think is politically correct, 20% of their time on Twitter endorsing political candidates, and 5% of their time on solutions.

I recommend first quoted PP read this article, every single word.

I think you greatly overestimate the presence of outsiders on this board. Youngkin talk was supposed to die down post-election, and it has not. I live in Fairfax County, was a Biden voter, and voted Youngkin because of the social justice zealotry of the Democrats in general and the SB in particular. So how will the SB react to the election? I'm sure they'll double down on their idiocy because they're entirely out of touch as a whole. And that's going to end up fueling the Republicans in the midterms.

Not sure what you are talking about (or you must be in a shitty HS pyramid). Today is O day for Diwali. We are Hindus. My kid went to school. He has a full/regular class schedule. Had homework yesterday and assignments due today.

Maybe it's time to scrap ALL religious holidays/observances including Christmas and Thanksgiving as well as the backdoor Good Friday holiday that magically seems to be rolled into Spring Break each year. I'd rather have a week or two off late Feb when it typically snows anyways..

+ 1. Regardless of whether CRT or astroturfing is real, Democrats losing the governorship is real. If the "non-reality" of CRT is not accepted by the masses, a republican congress and senate will be real in 2022. Choose wisely.

Good Friday isn't rolled into spring break this year. It's an O day.

Christmas and Thanksgiving are federal holidays. That's the secular justification to have off for them. Thanksgiving especially isn't tied to Christian religious observance, per se. It comes from the tradition of harvest feasts in England through the Puritans in New England and a New Englander convinced Abe Lincoln to make it a federal holiday to cheer up the north during the Civil War.

I have ES students, but my 4th grader reports that she isn't allowed to learn new stuff on any O days.

I'm not so sure about that. I think a lot of these folks are going to get distracted by some other shiny object and wander off in another direction. They got the immediate thrill of "change" on Tuesday...

Democrats alone run the fcps school board, the lcps school board, the aps school board, the fcc school board, the arps school hoard and the Virginia Departmemt of Ed and have for many years.

So yes, without exception, the democratic party owns all of the school issues in northern Virginia.
