McAuliffe will take a more hands on approach and for one thing, will be fixing segregation in our schools with a Chief Integration Officer and an equity council ( I forget the exact name but it’s on his website) that will force the issue. Schools won’t be accredited without the right amount of diversity, funding will be withheld and there will be state led efforts to diversify housing.

No one has to fear losing an election because of boundaries or any other issue. With the state directing it all, a loud obnoxious parents won’t make any difference at all.

This! Mcauliffe is for EQUITY!!!

I've read about this being done in other parts of the country. So there are existing programs out there. Can anyone show me where it's been done SUCCESSFULLY?

And why is it the school's job to do this? Like teachers need to shoulder more. Why can't the woke people move into these diverse neighborhoods? Why do they need it brought to them?

Right. They will be sending their perfect children to private school to avoid the consequences if equity if they aren't already. Equity is for the poors and LMC who are needed as worker bees. Only enough education to pay their taxes and follow directions from their employers.

The Republicans have done an excellent job organizing and funding local parent groups that made it their mission to target schools to win political office. Their misinformation has worked here and people think Youngkin would be good for education. Of course, he will not be good for education. He has said he will pass an anti-crt bill just like TX. Read about south lakes tx and see your child’s future of banned books and further whitewashing of our history. He also wants to defund public schools.

But this coordinated effort has worked here and all around the country and I have no doubt that Youngkin will win. Our schools will plummet in quality and private schools will boom.

Because you support private school vouchers and novaccine mandates for teachers/staff?

School choice is only for rich people like McAuliffe.

There's no misinformation about the segregation plans, it's all spelled out clearly:

He won’t make schools better. But some people think the governor controls schools, so….

ACtually the Department of Ed at the state level can and does have a good deal of influence at the district level.

Our local school board has done wonders for private schools, tutors and companies that sell homeschool curriculum by keeping schools closed. All are raking it in. We watched fcps meetings and work sessions. We know why they did what they did.

Parents with the money, time or both exercised the power of school choice this year. Parents who didn’t have the money or flexibility were stuck with fcps zoom school and you want to blame a vast right wing conspiracy for dissatisfaction ? Anyone paying attention knows how much learning was stolen from children and that those without parents with money and time to intensively remediate will never catch up. Then there’s the emotional cost of forced isolation and the removal of athletic and creative outlets. Fcps and others who kept schools closed took away so much.

If you had money and chose it your kid likely was in person in a private school while fcps was still closed.

School choice for the rich, like McAuliffe.

This. I’m from Texas. Vote D. I thought about Youngkin bc of all the school BS this year. However, I look at Tx and realize that my home state’s schools are bottom of the barrel. Rs do not make schools better. They make them more religious, equally politically charged, and spaces for teaching about why capitalism above all else, the opposing views of the Holocaust, and slavery wasn’t so bad. Tx teachers also get paid peanuts. Now think FL, NC, OK, WV, MS, etc. Not taking the lead in education.

TBH, I’m not happy with Ds or Rs at this point, but i know that I don’t want to live in permitless carry, guns everywhere, god in school, no reproductive rights state.

Ha! Our schools have been declining! Ask anyone who grew up here and now has kids in FCPS.

Exactly and this thread was probably started by one of Youngkin's people.

Well regardless of who started it, I'm glad they did. I had no idea of these crazy segregation policies that Terry wants to implement. If he wins and dares to try it, I'm pulling my kid out. I'm not sacrificing him to be bused across town to bring diversity to the white people. He just has a few years left, we can just homeschool.

You are so right.

No. I think FCPS handled last year way better than schools that stayed “open” and now have teachers walking out mid year, if they came back at all. Ask any SN parent in Florida, Arizona, or Texas how it’s going. Also we already send way too much money downstate. Hard pass.
